Out My Car: Proof positive that I am a nerd...
• 7.10.05, 1:45pm - Holy Crap, He's Going Nuts!:
So to try to make up for the fact that I haven't posted in a couple of
months, I figured I'd make like a billion posts today. Then I did
the math and figured out that if I made posts for 24 hours straight, I
would have to make just under 465,000 posts a minute to reach a billion
posts in a day. So I decided to scale it back to a slightly
smaller--but no less ambitious--amount of two.
Many of you may have heard by now that Kim and I are moving to Sioux
City. This is not a joke. I am, in fact, returning to the
city to which I once vowed I would never return. But I feel
better about it this time for the following reasons...
1.) Kim is going to be an instructor as
Briar Cliff University.
She'll be teaching journalism and mass communications. She's very
excited to have gotten a good job like this, and I think a it's a great
opportunity for Briar Cliff to inject some fresh ideas into their
journalism and mass communications department.
2.) On Friday, I accepted a job as a Creative Services Producer for
KTIV-TV. Basically, my job will
be to plan, shoot, and edit many of the station's local
commercials. I'll also help out in their promotions department
and in the studio. KTIV is the top-rated station in the market,
and I've heard good things about it from many people, including
Aimee, who
worked there when she and
Andy
lived in Sioux City. It seems like a great place to work.
3.) Additionally, I'm going to continue editing and authoring videos
for
Championship
Productions using my new home editing system. I have a
PowerMac G5 with a Dual 1.8Ghz processor and 1.5GB of RAM. I'm
using Final Cut Pro HD and DVD Studio Pro 3, which is exactly what I've
been using at Championship, so it should be an easy transition.
Having the system will also let me work on more personal projects, and
at some point in the future, I may consider offering freelance editing
and authoring services to other companies and people as well.
4.) We found a great apartment...
The pictures I have of the interior don't really accurately reflect how
big and how nice the apartment is, so I'll wait to post more pictures
until we move in. Suffice it to say that it's a great place in a
great neighborhood, and we can't wait to get there.
The past year has seen a lot of job and location changes for my
family. My mom started working at
Buena
Vista University last fall. My sister Holly is doing an
accounting internship in Omaha this summer. My parents started
building a new
house this spring...
...Last week, my dad started a new job at
Amaizing Energy, an ethanol
plant in Denison. My last day at Championship is July 22nd.
We leave Ames on the 28th and move into the new place in Sioux City on
the 29th. I start my new job on August 1st, and Kim starts hers
on September 1st. And, of course, we get married on October 1st.
That said, don't be surprised if this is my last post for a
while. Maybe I'll be able to post again soon. Maybe
not. But, if I don't get a chance to mention again anytime soon,
let me say that I'll be watching out for the Halloween decorations in
the next couple of weeks.
Happy Thanksgiving 2006!

Parents' Computer: An old IM message from
John...
my wife wants a dog. she already has a
baby. the baby is almost 2. my wife says that the baby
wants a dog. my wife has been wanting a dog for a long
time. I have had to be the one to tell her she
couldn't have it. But now the baby wants a dog. this
may be true. the baby is very close to my wife. the go
around together all the time clutching each other
tightly. I ask the baby who's a girl, "whose girl are
you, are you daddy's girl?" The baby says momma and
she doesn't just say it once, she says it repeatedly,
"momma momma momma." I don't see why I should buy a
$600 dog for that damn baby
