• 2.29.04, 5:35pm - Oh Boy:   Happy Leap Year!  In honor of the occasion, there was a Quantum Leap marathon on SciFi today.  If you missed it, don't worry.  Sam Beckitt will leap into the body of someone close to you on February 28th, 2004 and will make sure you get to see it.

If you like the Quizno's commericials with those mice/rat/gerbil thingys that sing about subs and coupons, I urge you to watch this .

And if you like that, check out rathergood.com .  Some of it's actually rather stinky, but you'll find some good stuff if you look in the right places.  I suggest starting with Northern , Destiny's Child , and A Frightened Boy .

I shamefully admit that I haven't seen many of the Oscar -nominated films this past year.  I plan to play catch-up on DVD.  That said, here are my predictions for the categories in which at least one film that I have seen is nominated:

- Animated Feature Film:Finding Nemo
- Art Direction:The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
- Cinematography:Seabiscuit
- Costume Design:The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
- Makeup:The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
- Adapted Screenplay: I can't even guess on this one.  I've seen two of the five nominated films (LOTR and Seabiscuit), and I don't think either one deserves the award.
- Original Screenplay:Lost in Translation, written by Soffia Coppola
- Music (original song): "Belleville Rendez-vous" from The Triplets of Belleville, music by Benoit Charest, lyrics by Sylvain Chomet  (I haven't seen this movie, but I have heard the song.)
- Sound Editing:Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl  (I haven't seen it...it's just a guess.)
- Sound Mixing:Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World  (I haven't seen this one either...but I heard an amazing story on NPR about the sound effects work.  If this movie doesn't win this category, it'll be a shame.)
- Visual Effects:The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
- Film Editing:Seabiscuit
- Best Actor: Bill Murray, Lost in Translation  (If Johnny Depp wins this one, I'll kill myself.)
- Directing: Peter Jackson, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
- Best Picture:The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
