   Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate

Goju-Ryu is a traditional Okinawan martial art.  The name Goju-Ryu literally means the hard (Go) and soft (Ju) way (Ryu).  This harmony between hard and soft is emblematic of the style and of our teaching philosophy.  We emphasize the art of karate-do with kata, prearranged forms performed alone, and bunkai, the application of kata performed with another person.  This approach allows the martial artist to focus on technique, speed, strength and fluidity without getting hurt, in conjunction with developing skills that are artistically aesthetic, spiritually enlightening, and practically useful.

A recent article by Sensei titled Miscellaneous Thoughts About Movement. "I keep emphasizing the concept of movement as I teach Goju Ryu, but what do I actually mean by understanding it?  When I see it, I know what it looks like.  When I feel it, I know how it feels like.  But trying to teach it is another issue.  So, what does it mean to understand movement?..." more

Comments from Pete:

Hard to believe but another three months has gone by since the last update.  I've been spending a lot of my free time reading my kids' books.  Check out the book section for some of my favorites in young adult section.

Check out the newly added music section.  This section will feature one song that will be periodically changed.  Although not necessarily related to Goju Ryu, it will none the less enhance your chi.

We are once again at the point where we tally the votes for a new slacker of the month.  Don't forget to vote.
