the squire of gothos

Dec 16th, 1992: A TREAT.
This one is basically a reworking of Charlie X. This time around, different issues are addressed: war, agression and power (plus abuse of same) are among the most obvious topics.
On top of that you have a great Kirk story, where the captain is very heroic.
Best Actor: William Campbell, who is superb! He plays it throughout as a child, which really impressed me. Shatner is also in top form.
This is an episode that I remembered vividly from my childhood (all those years ago!). Since I remembered it so well, and since I remembered the resolution to a tee I thought that I wouldn't enjoy the episode tonight. Boy, was I ever wrong! I loved it. This is really a very creative story. All that stuff with the planet chasing the ship is very unusual.
NB: Spock and McCoy are not really used much.
Notice how the humour scene at the end is quite natural, whereas with The Gallileo Seven the closing scene is AWFUL.
It's been really bugging me as to who the two voices are. I know both, especially the lady.
All in all, an exciting and strange story, which makes sense and has a great central hero. It is blessed by excellent writing and by a few thoughful undercurrents. And it is definately an episode I will enjoy re-watching sometime.
