Jidai Festival





In 1895, 1100 years had past since the capital relocated to Kyoto, Heian Shrine was built. Celebrating October 22, the parade which citizens participate started. This parade catches things and manners from the beginning of Heiankyo (794) to the Meiji period. The line was only six at first; the line was eight in 1921; then the line increased to 10 in 1931 and the contents became massive. The parade was broken in 1944 because of the war, but it was revived in 1977 with new lines and became magnificent.

Ishin kinnotai line

The time of the Meiji Restration, the volunteer in Tamba country organize Sangoku party and joined the loyalist army when the old members of shogunate revolted.

Tokugawa joshi joraku line

The Tokugawa shobunate sent a messenger to Kyoto at the New Year.

Edo period lady line

The ladies who were sperior to tanka poetry ot literature.

Hoko sancho line

May 1596, the day of Tokugawa Hideyori's first visitation to the Inperial Palace and September 1592, the day of celebration for his coming of age was the most magnificent ceremony.

Odako joraku line

After the rebellion of Onin, Kyoto and the Imperial Palace went downhill. In September 1568, Oda Nobunaga lead soldiers and went to Kyoto. He repaired the Imperial Palace, calmed people down, and tried its recovery.

Middle ages lady line

Oharame is a lady in Northern part of Kyoto and went to the city to sell firewood and charcol. (Oharame, Yodogimi, Katsurame, Fujiwara Tameie no Shitsu, Shizukagozen.)

Jonan yabusame line

The skill of bow which people put an arrow in the target from running horse.

Fujiwara kugyo sancho line

After the mid Heian period, Fujiwara was prosperous for both literary and military arts.

Heian period lady line

The famous ladies in this period. (From left, Tomoegozen, Yokobue, Tokiwagozen, Murasaki Shikibu, Seishonagon, Kino Tsurayuki no musume, Ono no Komachi, Wakee Hiromushi.)

Enrya officer konshin line

The general of this line is a impersonation of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro.

Enryaku pablic servant sancho line

The state is that the court noble in Enryaku period went to the Imperial Palace. The clothes are called "chofuku."
