The magnifivent Gion
Festival is Yasaka Shrine's month-long ritual, with a
tradition of more than a thousand years. Gion Festival
begins every year with a Shinto consecration ritual on
July first, and ends on July 31st with purification rites
to prevent pertilence for the rest of the summer season.
It is a truly special feature of the Gion Festival that
so many different god and spiritual traditions from
around the world are embraced and garmoniously venerated
togather.
