Aoi Festival





At the day of Emperor Kimmei, the second half of Kofun period, Kyoto had bad crop and spread hunger or plague. The Emperor sand a messenger and had a festivel. This is the origin of Aoi festival. The day of a festival (May 5th), everything in the Imperial Palace was decorated with leaves and twig. The name of festival comes from the name of this tree.
