(roll_call) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- A huge wtg to: corwin1, wattletoe, ev-, syd, butterbby, jimon, sinsear, debby31, texmania, neider-meyer, lauren, missgiggles (though she couldn't keep her paws in the room as much as we'd have liked) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- (commentary) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was a long three-game set, with the Rocks and Rats pitted against eachother in a match of wits. Bot gave us way too many champ rounds - prolonging the season by many extra minutes. Third Rock got ahead early in game 1, and it didn't look good... we were tense and nervous as we knew that the entire championship rested on this one game. Apples ended the game at 32-20 - who'd have thunk that Rocks needed to keep the doctor away? Game 2 didn't look very good either. We were behind the whole game. Then Bot favored us with Bon Jovi... and we won the second game based on Lauren's, Neider's & Debby's fond memories of the 80s. The third game we stayed ahead for awhile, the rocks got ahead for awhile... The score was 24-25 Rocks... We knew edible nuts was going to be the final category and that one team or the other would win... Bot seemed to take his time about tossing out the point display and we all sat on the edge of our sewer seats to find out we took six points and the win. In all honesty, if nite and missg had been able to stay in the room for longer than 2 minutes, who'd know what the scores would've been? It's too bad that we can't find out. This was a great season for us... and our third playoff victory. Butterbby announced she was retiring after the game, giving the whole win a bit of melancholy. (roll_call) Baggyrocker, Hiway-Rocker, Hope_Rocker, JadeRocker, NiteRocker, Madbison, Rockhead, SeaBlueRocker, SixthRocker, WolfRocker, YRocks, RockinSumm (commentary) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 13th proved lucky for the ROCK (what ARE we cooking?) as we sent the rats scurrying to the sewers in two very close games. The first game started with a vermin lead (2-3, PRO words), but we came back and crept to a 7-6 lead in MON words. We held on to the point difference during Pop ROCK duos, then pulled out to a 17-13 lead in Pokemon (so many pebbles to thank for that one!) Here's the Fact of Life: we can thank Bob HOPE for the 23-16 memories, then added to the windfall 27-17 with women with 7 letter names (add ROCKER to your first initial?) Proving gender equality, we won it 30-21 on Manly Songs. The second game started with a 5-5 tie on states with an A (and yes, we did get Montana, AAHHWWOO!) We pulled to a slight lead 11-9 on people you tip, but really broke away 17-12 on Ozzy Ozbourne (just ask Nancy Reagan). We orbited to 23-14 with Babylon 5, but the tribe of rats pulled within points 25-22 on Barbarians. We took the bait (that trophy) and ended this game 30-27 on Fishing Trip Things. | Playoff Game 3 - Rats versus Rocks Thursday 9:30 (teams) The Slobbering Rat Pack vs. The Rockers Syd, Jimon, Sinsear, Neider-meyer, Corwin, Texmania, Debby, Glitzee,
Wattle, MissGiggles, butterbby, Lauren, Ev(last and winning game!) The Rat Pack is THE team who is bonded by the will to win....with HEART! Those amazing Rockers had us against the wall several times tonight, so....we just had to scurry a little harder. The first cat of the first game was Party things, giving the Rocks a 6-4 lead. The next cat gave us Rats 8 out of 10 answers bringing the score to 12-8. We shared equal points of 5 with androgynous names. An old favorite of words with 4 o's came up next, bringing the score to 20-16 (rats). We scored 8 of 10 again with Dog breeds. We rats claimed victory on this game with the last cat of shows of the 60's and 70's. The Rocks decided to pull up their boot straps in game 2, coming out of the gate with a 5 to 3 lead on types of bones cat. The next entry I jotted down was north american ski resorts, giving the rocks a 19-15 lead. We did manage to get a 3 pt. sweep on the Laurel and Hardy movie cat. However, the last cat of "B" composers brought victory for the Rocks. When game 3 came in, talkcity decided to throw me OUT. (change to ev- reporting... I got thrown out at the same time as lauren did... Game 3 started with Pikachu things (thanks burger king for a bit of training during lunch this last week on this category - why are those things so popular?) Next up: Arnold movies - and the rocks led 7-9. Then, in one of the funniest moments in tournament history, Mariah Carey songs came up... and wendybird was the first to answer with butterfly... the rest of the room seemed stunned by the addition of a BRAND NEW CATEGORY of an artist Noone apparently listens to very often... and Wendy scored the only point... Then the rats got lucky... Photography things came up... Hope who scored the only rocker point got the boot, leaving the score 16-9 ratties... then lauren came back...) we return now to Lauren's report... When I finally got back in, we were in a double pointer category of
"Paper" things, which everyone smashed wide open and gave us the
victory for the first playoff game in a series of 3. Slobber on...

(commentary) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- AAAHHHWWWOOO!!! I am so proud of this team, which took tonight's playoff in two games that were tougher than the score reflects. We started the first game with a 7-3 lead in the "Friends" catagory ("I'll be there for you") then held on 12-8 in Animal Groups. Four made their move and closed the gap to 15-14 in the "Artist Formerly Known As Prince" cat. But we didn't give 'em a chance to hear what it sounds like when Rocks cry...we rolled all over the Mexican tourist cat (22-15) then won the game on Easter things (Alleluia!) The second game started with "Cities Beginning with a Vowel" and a Rocker lead of 6-4. One of our favorites, the Beatles movie cats, came next, and we pulled ahead 13-7. We added another 7 points in On Airplane (20-9) and scored 4 in Arthur Clarke (even though some of us had him mixed up with Asimov!) Eureka! Up came Edgar Allen Poe, and Fourplay's playoff hopes were Nevermore as we took six points...and the game. Thanks for the workout, fourplay, and congrats on this comeback season.
