Club Profile
|
The Charter of the Rotary Club of San Juan North was approved on December 8, 1983, and was presented to the club by RI President Bill Skelton himself, who was then on a visit here in the Philippines. The event happened during the reception tendered by then District Governor Mike Ampil in President Bill's honor.
During the same reception, the club presented the RI President, with 18 new Paul Harris Fellows and seven new Paul Harris Sustaining Members.
Thus started RCSJN's adventure in Rotary service. With 29 charter members, all of whom were PHFs and PHSM's, the first formal induction ceremony was held on December 29, 1983 at the Grand Ballroom of the Philippine Plaza Hotel with then Prime Minister Cesar Virata as guest speaker and Governor Mike Ampil as inducting officer.
The club is extremely proud of the illustrious Presidents who led through the Rotary years with distinction, helping propel the club to be among the most outstanding and prestigious Rotary clubs.
The club has been the forefront of Rotary service in the District. It has hosted many District events during the past years, including major District affairs such as: District Convention, District Assembly, TRF Forum, Annual Giving Dinner, PESETS, Mid-year Review, among others.
The Governors of District 3800, during their respective terms, have invariably enlisted the support of RCSJN Rotarians as District Officers. And the service performance of the club and its members, in recognition of their achievements, have consistently garnered awards and citations including being thrice named "Most Outstanding Club in District 3800" during the respective terms of PP Paul Tanjutco, PP Tancio Sia and PP Jun Borlongan.
RCSJN continues to be a major supporter of The Rotary Foundation. It has the highest contribution level, both in absolute terms and on per capita basis, among all the clubs in the District. It had the distinction of being a 100% Paul Harris Fellows club, a feat achieved in RY 1988-1989 (the only one in the Philippines and among only a few Rotary clubs worldwide).
In the fields of community and vocational service, the club had numerous diversified projects. Its flagship projects, however, continue to be Organ Transplantation (kidney, pancreas, bone marrow and lung) for charity patients; and the Skills Training Center. Both projects are continuing and expanding, institutionalized and funded by the Club's Tanglaw Foundation.
In 1999, the club launched its multi-million peso Micro-Lending Project. Supported by generous donations from the Rotary Club of Chung-Li South, and with Matching Grants from the District's DDF and The Rotary Foundation. The project aims to transform hundreds of beneficiaries into successful entrepreneurs, with loans to start up their business ventures. Its integrated approach includes continuing values formation and business skills seminars, conducted by club members.
Throughout its existence as a Rotary Club, RCSJN has been blessed by the continuing induction of dedicated and enthusiastic new members, inspired by the same dedication and enthusiasm of their sponsors. Its membership being its greatest asset, the club looks forward to attaining even greater heights in Rotary service in the coming years.
