Club Profile

In the list of real winners, almost all began from a vibrant background, they are the one who strive to be the best. In Rotary, however, we may call such club as the distinguished ones. One of the earliest acts of then Incoming District Governor Ric Chua Tiong Bio was to appoint Rotary Club of Mandaluyong, Past President Tony Co as DGSR. Both of them believed that due to the numerous establishments in the progressive town of San Juan, another Rotary club can possibly emerge.
As the 1992-1993 Rotary Year started, DGSR Tony Co conducted a personal survey of the offices names, stores and other institutions in the area west of Ortigas Avenue. He then presented the results to the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of San Juan. The board readily approved to sponsor a new club.
In the cold mornings of December 1992, DGSR Tony Co started having breakfast meetings with some of the prospective members at the historic Club Filipino, Greenhills. The initial prospective members who were mostly his tennis buddies or neighbors in North Greenhills were encouraged to recruit other qualified friends.
Condominium developer, Jing Pascual insisted that they recruit other qualified female members and starter recruiting his manager who in turn recruited sister Fely Ong and Gloria Tan. The membership soon became fifty percent male and fifty percent female. DGSR Tony's wife Marilou became the charter president.
On June 1, 1993, the charter of Rotary Club of San Juan Del Monte was approved by Rotary International. During RY 1993-1994 on its first year of existence, the Rotary Club of San Juan Del Monte won the most coveted award. The "Most Outstanding Rotary Club in District 3800". Aside from this prestigious recognition, RCSJDM also received nine other awards and to cap it all, the club received from R.I. President Robert Barth the Rotary International Significant Award for 1993-1994. The club did not sit on its laurels, we continue to work closely with the district thrust and participated with district fora and rallied behind all the governors. The club again received in the year 1996-1997 under President Fely Ong, the "Outstanding Club Award" and the "Significant Achievement Award" under President Aly Go.
RY 2000-2001 under President Annette Esparaz, the club won numerous awards including the "Outstanding Club Award" and the most coveted "Significant Achievement Award" given by R.I. President Frank Devlyn.
