Club Profile

The Rotary Club of Sampaguita Grace Park was first conceived through the efforts of the sponsoring organization, the RC of Grace Park, which invited Lina Aurelio to attend their weekly Thursday meetings at Chui Chow Gardens. After a month's consistent attendance, then Club President Eddie Silverio asked the Rotary Club of Grace Park to sponsor a new club. The core group, composing of Evelyn Jacinto, Nia Francisco, Fe Laines, Melinda R. Suntay and Lina Aurelio herself attended a meeting on May 18, 1989 with the Rotary Club of Grace Park and District Governor Rufino "Ruf" Luna appointed PP Diosdado Mendoza as special representative to form the new club. Weekly meetings every Tuesday afternoon were then being done, thus making it a provisional club.
In just a short period, they were able to gather 26 members whose names were submitted to Rotary International by the DGSR before June 30, 1989. The requirements for the club's charter were then processed through the efforts of PP Dado Mendoza and PP Herbert Acolola of RC Kalookan, District Governor's Extension Aid. The new club was chartered July 13, 1989 and its members and officers were inducted into office on September 10, 1989 with Lina Aurelio as Charter President.
Among the projects undertaken during the year were: (1) Disaster Preparedness & Relief Services Seminar (2) Donation of 40 pcs. boots, 50 pcs. stickbrooms for the Environment Sanitation Center of the City Government and in response to on-going trust of the District Governor "Linisin and Bayan". (3) Free Anti-rabies vaccine (4) 8-Week course on Cosmetology. Projects on Club Service and International Service had not been started yet. Since they started only in the second half of the year, the programs implemented were quite an achievement themselves. For RY 1989-90, this year made a significant event in the history of Rotary International if only for the fact that this is the year the first all-women Rotary Club was formed in a poor Southeast Asian Country like the Philippines.
