Club Profile
|
Sometime in the early part of Rotary year 1997-1998, some 50 people, mostly residents of Filinvest East, all professionals and prominent businessmen in their own right, received letter of invitations to join in the formation and organization of a new Rotary Club to be based at Filinvest East Subdivision. Initially, few responded to the call. However, in subsequent meetings, more and more came until the required minimum number of members-organizers were attained. After some informal meetings, a permanent set of officers was elected to serve for a term of one rotary year head by Dr. Greg Llaguno, as Charter President.
In its initial year of existence, the Rotary Club of Rizal Mideast has undertaken numerous civic projects notably, the Anti-rabies Dog Vaccination; Medical and Dental Outreach Program for the students of Halang Elementary School, Career Guidance for High School students at Felix Memorial High School; Tree-planting and Greening project; Christmas Gift-giving to indigent in nearby depressed areas; and the Awarding of Outstanding Teachers of the F. P. Felix Memorial High School, Cainta, Rizal.
The club membership is generally characterized as cohesive having retained almost all of its charter members in its initial year of existence. Admittedly, some members resigned. However, new batches of dedicated and enduring members had been admitted increasing the new roster to 28. Equally impressive is the cooperation of its members as demonstrated in the numerous projects it has accomplished in the short span of time. In its initial year, the Rotary Club of Rizal Mideast is a proud recipient of the Presidential Citation Award.
On its second year, even as a fledging neophyte, the club and Pres. Boy De Leon were cited by D-3800 the Certificate of Appreciation and Leadership Award, respectively, for successfully sponsoring the District-wide Bowling Tournament.
The club observed its 3rd anniversary on May 7, 2000. Pres. Manny Dooc and his team relentlessly implemented the various programs initiated by their predecessors. Support to Halang Elementary School was intensified and proved that it could assume greater role in D-3800. It embarked on projects for the protection of the environment such as a seminar on Waste Management and Tree-planting. It formalized the adoption of a school and a barangay, constructed a room for students and cemented pathways for barangay residents. Outreach projects were also undertaken such as the donation of books and money to the needy school children of General Nakar, Quezon Province, distribution of groceries and feeding of indigent and handicapped patients at the House of Charity at Marikina City. In recognition of the club's relentless efforts in concluding all this projects, the District awarded the club and president Manny Dooc a total of five (5) citations: Award of Excellence, Presidential Citation Award, Leadership Award, Outstanding Rotary Club Award and Outstanding Club President Award.
The Millennial Team, headed by Del C. Pantangco, spearheaded the club back to basics. Tried and tested projects, which benefited the community, were pursued with greater vigor together with new projects.
