Club Profile

Truth is sometimes said to be stranger than fiction. There are ways by which truth come about in more unlikely fashion like in what gave birth to the Rotary Club of Pasig West (RCPW). Our club traces its beginning from a vision to set up a new club within the environs west of Pasig in response to the RI theme "Build the Future with Action and Vision (RY 96-97). Past President Felicito "Fil" O. Guba of the Rotary Club of Pasig South somehow got involved with this tall order and sometime in early 1997 approached Charter President Den Somera for the task. CP Den due to more pressing personal concerns declined but was haunted with it as another RI year followed, with its theme "Rotary Cares" (RY 97-98). Thus, the "vision" and "care" to form a new club just wafted only into air as a "dream".
However, as is said, the vagaries of time have its way of shaping up things. After almost two years, District Governor Special Representative Fil Guba and CP Den Somera again had the opportunity to talk about the new club. CP Den was surprised to find out that no one took the "vision" and or the "care" to build a new club. The theme of RI at this time was "Follow Your Rotary Dream" and the District Governor was Antonio "Tony" Co. This fateful encounter resulted into the designation of DGSR Fil set into motion a supportive hand for CP Den to dare follow a dream.
On September 21, 1998, a Monday, the first meeting of the "new club" was held at the Citrus (La Tasca Restaurant at the 25th Floor of the JMT Corporate Condominium at ADB Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City. There was respectable attendance but short of the minimum requirement of 20 members to form a new club. Only 10 came the following Monday, September 28. The acid test was on the 3rd meeting, October 5 where DG Tony Co was coming over to see for himself the prospect of the new club. That night 22 came to dare stand up to "Follow Their Rotary Dream". From then on the club met regularly without fail up to this day.
Another twist set in. By December, the club of DGSR Fil, RCPS, could not muster to fill up their lack of two members to comply with the required minimum of 25 to be the main sponsoring club. The relatively young Rotary Club of Pasig North (RCPN) and its aggressive Charter President were tapped to the rescue. On December 10, 1998, RCPN became the main sponsor of RCPW with RCPS as co-sponsor. The official application documents for charter was sent via courier on February 12, 1999. Subsequently CP Den received a congratulatory letter from Southeast Asia Service Center dated March 2, 1999 sending its best wishes and unsolicited assistance as RCPW was granted status by Rotary International on February 24, 1999 as Club no. 51757.
RCPW was born out of a dare to follow a dream posted by RI President James L. Lacey, RY 98-99, through the theme "Follow Your Rotary Dream." It is proud and young club full of hope and enthusiasm. The Filipino custom and tradition of "Bayanihan - spirit of serving others" serves as its declared policy and slogan.
