Club Profile
|
Chartered on June 6, 1986, the RC of Metro Valenzuela was the fourth club to be established in the new City of Valenzuela. It was the brainchild and magnificent obsession of its Charter President, Reynaldo D. Lopez and the proud progeny of the RC of Valenzuela East under then R.I. District 380, led by DG Fernando A. Pedrosa, who has designated now PDG Santos C. Chua, as his special representative.
Notwithstanding the uncertain times in business and politics following famous 1986 EDSA Revolution, still there were 61 business and professional leaders in the community who joined as charter members.
Upon issuance of its charter, the club was able to complete the organization of its Rotary family with the formal establishment of its Spouses Association (now Inner Wheel Club of Metro Valenzuela), Rotaract and Interact clubs.
In barely two years of its existence, the club shared its pride in the ideals of Rotary by organizing the Rotary Club of Valenzuela South with CP Reynaldo D. Lopez as DGSR. It has also forged cooperative action with five other local Rotary clubs, namely: Southern Pampanga (1990); Puerto Princesa, Palawan (1991); Angeles (1993); Calapan, Mindoro (1994) and Chinatown, Manila (1997) through the initiative of PPs Gene Pantig, Pio Rodriguez, Dave Santos, Johnny Bernardo and Nixon Lee, respectively. And again, in 1996, the club sponsored the organization of the Rotary Club of Greater Valenzuela under the tutelage of PP Porfirio Rodriguez, DGSR.
As a manifestation of its strong advocacy to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International's peace programs for greater world understanding, the club has for its credit 19 PHFs and 16 PHSMs. Presently, the club maintains its membership strength of 26 active members.
To further the object of Rotary, the club put up its own Metroval Rotary Foundation, Inc., which grants vocational and technical scholarships to poor but deserving students in the community. Through its livelihood programs, the Foundation contributes tangibly in the improvement of living conditions of the underprivileged in the locality.
Inspired by the Rotary's principle, ideals and the commitment to Serve Above Self, the club worked side-by-side with the appropriate local government agency in humanitarian and community projects and in addressing environmental concerns. These projects include the construction of water wells, traffic outposts and signal lights, public waiting stations, drainage excavation and rehabilitation of sanitation facilities, declogging and dredging of creek, tree planting, and garbage disposal activities. Its humanitarian development activities include countless medical and dental missions, polio plus immunization drives distribution of nebulizer machines and vaccine carriers for the community clinics in the community. It also invested in youth development programs such as drug and substances abuse prevention workshop, literacy livelihood and skills training for out-of-school youth, career information and sport activities.
In recognition of its effort and enthusiasm in humanitarian and community development, the club has been consistently receiving commendations not only from Rotary International but also from the local government of Valenzuela.
The club is likewise known for its preparedness and quick response to extend helping hands to victims of calamities and disasters through relief and rescue missions such as those that benefited the victims of killer quakes, ashfall and lahar flows and floods that followed the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991 and the recent floods in the metropolis.
