Club Profile
|
In the vastness of the World of Rotary International there is one place which can be aptly described as a "congenial spot", to paraphrase a ditty of a well-known Broadway musical. It is known as the Rotary Club of Marikina West or popularly known as the "Golden West."
Eighteen years ago, the Rotary Club of Marikina West initiated preparatory activities culminating in the first official acts of the Golden West Club through the election of its first set of officers and directors and constitution and by-laws adopted. Chartering of the new club came as a matter of course and on June 28, 1984, the Rotary Club of Marikina West was born. The birth of the club gave new meaning to the lives of the twenty-eight (28) charter members and a deeper perspective to their understanding of fellowship, goodwill and commitment to service.
On its anniversary celebrations, the Golden Westerners look back with pride and joy as they recall moments of distinction in the club. For who would not be proud to be with the "showingest" club for always outnumbering other clubs in membership attendance during various district fora and implementing several projects giving tremendous impact, pride and honor to the club and the district.
Among the projects enunciated by the Rotary Club of Marikina West, the one that perhaps leaves a lasting legacy to all Marikeos is the "Bamboo Tree Planting Project" along the banks of the Marikina River. It all began in Rotary year 1990-1991 when Rotary International adopted as Rotary's principal theme and thrust "Preserve the Planet Earth". Answering the worldwide call to all Rotary clubs to project and preserve the environment, the Rotary Club of Marikina West launched the bamboo tree planting project which eventually was elevated into a zone and district wide project catching even the attention of the National Government. It merited at the district and RI levels coveted "Outstanding and Significant Achievement Awards".
The club has in its roster one of the biggest number of Paul Harris Fellows and sustaining members from the zone.
The leadership of the club is determined to continue with the tradition of outstanding accomplishments in fellowship and service of the last eighteen years. It looks forward to a sustained and quality recruitment of new members in the years to come.
