Club Profile
|
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Marikina, the Rotary Club of Marikina North (RCMN) began its existence 20 years ago with 26 charter members. Its Charter President is Ponciano "Pons" B.P. Pineda, then Director of the Institute of Language.
There are presently 48 members with an average age of 50, three of whom are women. It has one Rotaract Club, two Interact Clubs and two RVCs as Partners-in-Service. It likewise maintains ties with three (3) local sister clubs, and forged a sisterhood agreement with the Gwangdeok Rotary Club of District 3750 in South Korea.
The club had already raised US$34,000 + for The Rotary Foundation through its 27 PHFs, 3 MPHFs, 1 Benefactor and 20 PHSMs. Also more than PhP3.8 M was expended for community, vocational and environmental projects. It also successfully nominated 6 TRF ambassadorial Scholars starting 1985.
Throughout its two (2) full decades of services and fellowships, the club has been very active on the district level, being a regular host of various district fora and workshops (hosted PETS 3 times: 1992, 1995 & 1999; Membership Development & Retention Forum in 1997; and District Assembly 2001).
A perennial recipient of district recognition and awards, the club is known for the outstanding quality of its Club Service - having sponsored four (4) Rotary Clubs in 1992, 1992, 1998 and 2000; pioneered "PalaRotary" in 1989 and 1990. Its club bulletin "SANDIWA" has consistently been in the district honor roll and garnered no. 1 awards in 1992 and 1996. Attendance performance for the past 11 years has been at the district's top three and was the best over-all district wide for four (4) years in 1989-91 and 1993). It is likewise known as one of the very few clubs in the country that conducts its meeting in Filipino.
With its trademark battlecry of "WALANG KAKALAS, WALANG BIBITIW!" RCMN strength lies in its Community service, especially through innovative or relevant projects, such as the annual "Parangal sa Senior Citizens (since 1992), which was recognized by R.I. with a Significant Achievement Award; its comprehensive literary promotion program (since 1998) at the SSS Village Elementary School (SSSVES), including a "Literacy Fun Run", its 6-month 5-days-a-week community-based feeding program at Cupang, Antipolo and at SSSVES; and its Computer Training & Livelihood Center (1995).
It has sponsored various skills training and livelihood programs; installed deep well (in 1989) completed the electrification (1990) and construction of a multi-purpose center (1193) and additional artesian well (1999) at the depressed RVC community in Antipolo; the installation of an electric deep well at SSSVES (1999); the concreting of a 20-meter approach to Lilac Bridge (1990); the adoption of a displaced Aeta community in San Mateo (1994); leadership training seminars for youth leaders and Interactors (1998 & 1999); and 4-Way Test writing contest among high school students (1999), among others.
