Club Profile

Organized on May 25, 1993, this club covers the eastern part of Marikina, particularly Concepcion Uno and Parang. The need to organize a Rotary club covering these areas was conceptualized during the term of District Governor Ric Chua Tiong Bio (RY 1992-1993) who then tasked the Rotary Club of Marikina North through DGSR Ed Sumulong to form the club. He was assisted by Rtn. Edman Manzanares, PP Ilde Abasolo, Rtn. Glenn Guerrero, Rtn. Rye Sabio and Rtn. Mel Santos, the first batch of 25 members were rotarized and formed into a Rotary Club. The charter officers were: Charter President Martin "Virtudz" Virtudazo, Jr.; Vice-President Ernesto "Ernie" Sumulong; Secretary/President-Elect Eliezer "Boy" Marigza; Asst. Secretary Lorenzo "Lory" Cinco; Treasurer Castelar "Dong" Borja; Asst. Treaurer Armando "Boyet" Ezpeleta; Auditor Marcelino "Oli" Olegario; PRO Ramon "Mon" Juanillo, Jr. and Sgt-At-Arms Allan Garcia.
During its initial year, RC Marikina East was actively involved in civic action projects such as the Anti-drug Abuse Awareness Project, the Polio Plus Program of RI and the Anti-Tetanus Drive for Children and Women of child bearing age by the Department of Health. Some of the club's noteworthy projects were: Sponsored Marikina-wide Quiz Bee Contest, medical and dental outreach programs, joint sponsorship of the Yuletide Parol Contest, the December visit to CRIBS Phils., and the Home for the Aged, the setting-up of two (2) 4-Way Test Makers, the Search for Marikina's Bagong Bayani Awardees and the Bamboo Tree Planting project.
After more than 9 years since its organization, the club has grown in strength through the dedication and commitment of its officers and members. Through the years, it can boast of significant contributions to RI District 3800 and the community it serves through projects, such as: the successful DISTAS 1998 at Subic; District Family Shootfest; RYLA 2000; Search for MOPS of Marikina City; Book donations to Parang Elementary School and St. Mary's Elementary School; the Oral Hygiene Project; co-hosting the Phil. Arny National ROTC Speech Contest at Camp Aguinaldo; organizations of 2 Interact Clubs, 2 Rotaract Clubs; 4 RVCs; Grameen Bank for RVCs and Deep Well projects at Marikina High School and St. Mary's Elementary School thru the WCS program of Rotary International.
RCME members who have since led the club to what it is now are as follows: CP Martin "Virtudz" Virtudazo, 1993-1994; Pres. Eliezer "Boy" Marigza, 1994-1995; Pres.
