Club Profile
|
The seed a new club was first planted when a group of Rotarians from the RC Marikina led by its then President Carlos "Chuck" Castano and DGSRs PP Jimmy Tiu and PP Emil Cruz met in an organizational meeting with the nucleus of the proposed club. The date was February 13, 1985 or just ten days before the 80th Anniversary of Rotary International. It was the third club to be organized under the aegis of the RC Marikina. Earlier on it had successfully chartered RC Marikina West and the RC Marikina North.
Some three weeks late, on March 8, and upon reaching the required of 25 members, the prospective Rotarians held the very first election of officers for their club henceforth to be known as the Rotary Club of Marikina Central. Elected as Charter President was Edgardo Gatchalian. About a month later, the RC Marikina Central was officially accepted into the Rotary International with the approval of its membership on April 4, 1985. The formal charter presentation was held on June 15, 1985 at the Asian Institute of Tourism, Quezon City.
The club was not spared the usual birth pains and problems that best new clubs. Membership rose and fell, attendance in meetings was low and for which no regular and suitable venue could be established. Moreover, there were not much activities or projects for the members to work on which would have enhanced fellowship and rotarization.
The ensuing years were periods of adjustments and consolidation as the club persisted to keep alive. Membership steadily grew and stabilized, attendance gradually improved, bonds were strengthened, active participation was the usual order of the day.
As the logo of the club suggests, it concentrated its activities toward community projects. Over the years, RCMC had successfully sponsored continuing community oriented programs, in particular, a college scholarship program, supplementary feeding to malnourished school children, medical and dental missions and anti-rabies vaccination. Also, held regularly one every Rotary year are career development seminars, tribute to High School valedictorians, book donations to schools and libraries. Whenever called for, the club provides assistance and relief to disaster victims.
The club also fully supports the District and actively participates in its affairs, the district conference, district assembly, fora and seminars. It has likewise sent delegates to Rotary International Conventions.
In district sports competitions, the club is the active participant and has excelled in the fields of bowling and shooting. It has also hosted district tournaments on said sports. The club likewise regularly participates in the annual PalaRotary and in billiard tournaments.
For its membership development and fellowship activities, the club holds regularly monthly spouse night, annual summer picnic and fireside meetings, team building and leadership seminars.
On TRF, the club has done its share contributing six (6) Paul Harris Fellows and twelve (12) sustaining members.
RCMC has an all male club with a current membership roster of twenty nine made up of young entrepreneurs and professionals whose average age is forty (40). It meets regularly on Wednesdays at 8:00 in the evening at the CVJ Clubhouse located at #19 Flamingo St., New Marikina Subd., Marikina City. RCMC has maintained a well balanced year-round program of activities sustaining the active participation and enthusiasm of its members truly living up well to its slogan "Sentro Ng Serbisyo!"
