Club Profile
|
The Rotary Club of Marikina was organized on February 5, 1965 with the Rotary Clubs of Quezon City and Kalookan as sponsors. Its territorial limits comprise the towns of Marikina (now Marikina City), San Mateo and Montalban (now Rodriguez), Rizal. It was admitted to Rotary International on March 18, 1965 and the formal presentation of its charter was held on June 26, 1965. Starting with a nucleus membership of 33 Rotarians, 27 charter members, and 6 baby Rotarians, the club was able to hurdle the trying times that usually confront any newly formed club to emerge proud of its beginnings. Today, it has 62 members who are active as well.
In the succeeding years, it worked for the admission to Rotary International of its extension clubs, namely: RC Marikina North, RY 1980-1981 (the same year that it founded the Marikina Rotary Foundation, Inc., to augment its efforts in community service); RC Marikina West, RY 1984-1985; RC Marikina Central, RY 1985; and co-sponsored the organization of RC Rizal Mideast, RY 1997-1998 and the RC Metro Marikina, RY 1999-2000.
The Rotary Club of Marikina holds its regular meetings on Thursdays, 7:00 PM at the Marikina Rotary Youth Center Bldg., located along Sumulong Avenue, Marikina City in front of the Marikina Sports Complex. The construction of its clubhouse was pursued jointly by the Foundation and the club to ensure the successful implementation of all the club's projects designed towards the promotion of the welfare of the youth, health care, and socio-economic-cultural programs for the benefit of the constituents of Marikina, San Mateo and Montalban. In the words of one of its past presidents, "Very few parallels can be drawn to depict the saga of building the Marikina Rotary Youth Center. It is the culmination of the aspiration of a hardy group of men - testimony to a united effort. Now it stands as an instrument for an ever continuing service.: It is the legacy of its forebears whose names are permanently etched in the bronze marker embedded at the entrance of its wall. Today, it is not only a physical landmark in a fast developing city that was a rustic town just a few years ago, but a monument to the indomitable spirit of Service Above Self of the members who have earned honor to be invited in this organization - past and present.
The Rotary Club of Marikina is committed to live up to its dedication to Rotary's ideals of service, an aspiration that has already earned for its numerous citations and awards, including the "Most Outstanding Club of District 3800." It is home club of two District Governors: PDG Ting Tanco and DG Efren de Guzman.
