Club Profile
|
It was the trio of DGSR Ric Torres, Dr. Glenn Salonga and Cornelio Oruga, who did the spadework in producing a roster of probable members.
After meeting regularly every Wednesday for three months, as a provisional club, RC Mandaluyong North was officially the firs club to be chartered in RY 1983-84 on August 19, 1983, under DG Mike Ampil.
The charter year head by Rene Monson was a period of adjustment for the new Rotarians who were exposed mostly to Rotary information, fellowship and membership growth and development. The club continued this thrust the next year under the leadership of Dr. Glenn Salonga, including a series of projects like medical-dental missions, community development, a seminar on drug abuse, the formation of an Interact Club, a crayon-drawing contest and the adoption of Fabella Center.
The succeeding years that followed were characterized by numerous projects that addressed the pressing needs of the community, such as medical assistance to the poor, construction of deep wells and medical outreach projects.
RY 1985-86, the club extended its identity among Rotarians of District 3800 by attending district affairs under the leadership of P Noli Galias. That year the club garnered a district project namely: Songfest '86. The year 1987 was again focused on continuing the club's commitment to service with membership as the main thrust. The club hosted the basketball tournament among Rotarians in Mandaluyong, this under the leadership of P Lui Padilla. During the term of Ciso Bernardo, the club undertook its Polio Plus campaign in coordination with Rotary International. When P Jun Alikpala was president, he continued the club's commitment to provide assistance to the wards of Fabella Center and started providing scholarship grants to poor but deserving students.
In 1990, during the term of P Clem Jalijali, he implemented measure to make the attendance rating stay high. The "Tindahan ng Bayan" project was also undertaken in cooperation with the government. When the turn of P Cesar Regalla in 1991came, he continued the project on scholarship, assistance to Fabella Center. He also implemented the assistance to Mt. Pinatubo victims and sponsored a one-day seminar on Career Development for the graduating class of San Felipe Neri High School. P Raul Diaz focused on community-based projects and membership growth. During RY 1992-93, the club received donation from Nagoya, Japan, to fund the deep well project in San Miguel, Barangay Plainview. During the terms of P Elmer Santos, the club's thrust was on the initiation of livelihood projects in Mandaluyong in cooperation with barangay leaders and on membership growth, the target was from 22 members to 30. RY 1994-95, P Bert Lomibao, the second deep well project was constructed in Barangay Plainview, fund coming from RC Nagoya South, D2760, Japan.
It was during the term of Bernie Olalia that RVC was formed at the Fabella Center with an initial membership of 15. The project was made possible by Mr. Daniel Dela Cruz, president of Nature's Garden who needed manpower to assembly products for export. Another deep well was constructed at St. Ignatius, Bgy. Plainview on June 21, 1996.
The "Silip Mata" project was launched during the term of P Elmer De Leon as a continuing medical-dental mission of the club. RY 1997-98 P Junne Trias continued the project at Fabella Center and "Water for Life" rehabilitation project and spearheaded the holding of Mandaluyong Zone Symposium on "Show Rotary Cares". For this Pres. Junne become a recipient of the Leadership Award and the Presidential Citation from Rotary International. RY 1997-98, P Jack Sia continued the club's programs and projects like providing assistance to Fabella Center, tree-planting and supporting district affairs and activities. The next president, Madz Reyes saw to it the club's projects continuously done. The club donated relief goods to the victims of the calamity in Antipolo City, donated an astronomical telescope to the Mandaluyong Science High School and distributed thousands of tree samplings to the City government of Mandaluyong.
RY 2000-2001 with P Ronnie Almestas at the helm, saw the continuation of his predecessors laudable projects. During the year, the Matching Grant project "Bahay Kalinga" was implemented, adoption of Doa Basilisa Yangco Elementary School and Mandaluyong High School. The club also focused its attention to Membership Development & Retention, thus adding four (4) new members to its roster.
The club also supported the RI thrust on Preventable Blindness by distributing Vitamin A capsule to Grade I pupils of Basilisa Yangco and Plainview Elementary School.
