Club Profile
|
The birth of the club was in Rotary Year 1986-1987 with 41 charter members. The Rotary Club of Mandaluyong East was chartered on February 5, 1986 during the incumbency of Governor Fernando "Nanding" Pedrosa. PP Lito Soriano representing RC Mandaluyong, was appointed as our DGSR. The charter presentation and induction of the first set of officers was held on April 11, 1984 at the Club Filipino.
One of the pioneer projects of the club was a cleft lip and palate operation campaign undertaken at the Trinity Hospital in Sta. Ana, Manila. Surgeons from Singapore as well as our local dental and medical surgeons had teamed up together to give "hope" for a better life among children afflicted with the congenital defects. Another pioneer project was the drilling of artesian wells in the various barangays of Mandaluyong. Such project was undertaken with the cooperation of the Association of Filipino Physicians in America.
During the administration of PP Mindo Fajardo the following year after the chartering of the club, the Diwang Silangan Foundation, the club's fund raising arm, and the Rotary Ann Association were formally organized. Among the major projects of the club during its second Rotary year were the Polio Plus campaign, the child immunization drive, the fundraising Sweepstakes raffle, and the Christmas package distribution drive.
Throughout the years that followed, the club had undertook numerous projects which touched the lives of our less fortunate brothers. Such projects comprised of relief good donations, tree planting, scholarship sponsoring, and various medical missions. For RY 2000-2001 under the helm of Pres. Boy Villagarcia, the club has already implemented successfully several projects. One of them was the "Share a Toy - Share a Joy" project which was participated on by the young children of St. Camillus Day Care Center. The club was able to launch a Feeding Program for around 3,000 school children at Bongabon, Nueva Ecija. With the cooperation of all its members, the club hopes to accomplish all its undertakings at present and in the near future.
