Club Profile
|
The Rotary Club of Mandaluyong Central (RCMC) was born as an offspring of the Rotary Club of Mandaluyong West under the leadership and guidance of Rotarian Ofring Consolacion. It started as a small group and held its first meeting at the Marco Polo Restaurant, one Thursday noon in January 1985.
From a small group of ten people, its membership rose to fifteen (15) until the members became twenty-nine (29) in all. The club filed its charter papers to Rotary International in February 1985, which was approved by March of the same year.
The club was first named Rotary Club of Mandaluyong East; then the name was changed to Midtown Mandaluyong, which later became Mandaluyong Central. The members elected the charter directors who in turn elected the first set of officers with Rotarian Arcadio "Gabby" Gabriel chosen as the Charter President for RY 1985-1986.
To arouse interest and exchange ideas, the club initially conducted fellowship meetings where all members were asked to generate ideas and formulate a direction for the club's main thrust of activities and community services. As a result, the Rotary Club of Mandaluyong Central conducted its first Medical-Dental Clinic at the Barangay Hall of Plainview, Mandaluyong with the cooperation of other Rotarians and Rotary Clubs who donated medicines and other services.
Sometime later in June of the same year, the club again conducted a Medical-Dental Service in Barangay Barangka with Rotarian/VP Jessie Cruz providing the logistic for the operation. All in all, the club has attended to over four hundred (400) patients.
RCMC has had its share of ups and downs including a club President who failed to complete his term. Then VP/Sec/PE Allan Anthony Hilvano was requested to take over the reins of the club for the rest of the Rotary year and continue as president during his actual term. PP Allan therefore served for 1-1/2 years (RY 1995-1997). Another troubled year followed as there were not takers for the presidency. It was Rotarian Elvis Talang who gallantly accepted the assignment with the primary goal of saving the club from dissolution.
The RY 1998-1999 officers, directors and general membership - under the leadership of Pres. Robert Castaares, transformed RCMC into one of the prestigious clubs in RI District 3800 with the involvement of the spouses and children in most of the club's projects and activities. RCMC's Spouses Association was born to extend the services of RCMC to the communities it serves.
