Club Profile

Conceived by its parent club, the Rotary Club of San Juan on July 16, 1982, the Rotary Club of Greenhills went through the difficulties and anxieties, the anticipation and excitement of creation and birth.
To begin with, even after the conception in July 1982 of a new Rotary club in its territory, the Rotary Club of San Juan was like a house divided on the issue of planed parenthood. But due to the ideal of service that should be second nature among Rotarians, and perhaps because of parents' natural desire to perpetuate the species - to see in RC Greenhills a little of RC San Juan - on October 1, 1982 at Valle Verde Country Club, a committee was organized for the purpose and test the seriousness of RC San Juan.
On October 20, 1982, the general membership of RCSJ approved a resolution authorizing the organization of an extension club within which RCSJ was to magnanimously share not just the Greenhills area but the entire territory that is San Juan.
Only three prospective members attended the first meeting in early November 1982. During the next two meetings on November 16 & 23, attendance increased to more than 10. In December, perhaps because businessmen and professionals are characteristically busy preparing for the festivities of the season, it was decided not to hold meetings during the month.
Only five prospective members attended January 4 meeting; January 11 saw only 10 attending. On January 25, 1983, spirits were somewhat dampened. Only twenty prospective members attended, just only shy of the 21 required as minimum number of charter members of a Rotary club. The move towards organization was at least started.
By February 1, 1983, some of 27 prospects signified their intention to become members. Of these, 23 already filed membership applications and 20 attended the meeting that day. It was on this meeting that the provisional club elected Mickey Ortigas and Dommy Comia provisional president and vice-president, respectively. Also, the club's Constitution and by-laws were formally and retroactively adopted.
On March 15, 1983, all the formal requirements for the charter were completed and the application for charter together with the supporting documents was submitted to the District Governor.
On May 5, 1983 the Rotary Club of Greenhills became "A duly admitted members of the Rotary International".
