Club Profile
|
The Rotary Club of Cardona was chartered June 27, 1988. The club was organized thru the initiative of then RC Morong President Rudy San Felipe in coordination with District Governor Tino Cacanindin. As a young club then with very few members, Charter President Pete Alejandro together with the members took effort dedicating time and resources in its formation. There is so much to learn running a club, interacting with the District and the Rotary International as well, attending and meetings called upon by the District, seeking information for growth and development. Over the years, membership grew in numbers.
Rotary Club of Cardona participated in and supported all the activities and projects called by the District. During the District Convention in 1988, RC Cardona joined the "Sayaw-Awit Contest" held in Baguio City, garnering 3rd place. It was also awarded 1st place during the 1994 Discon "Group Singing Contest" held in EDSA Shangri-La Plaza. The club supported the zonal presentation in the succeeding years of conventions.
In another way, the club through the District's guidance was able to accomplish projects such as, the distribution of books and Vitamin A, benefiting schoolchildren. The club also provided a reading center within the compound of one of the public schools. A massive anti-drug campaign, in coordination with local government, was also initiated. Other projects included the yearly construction of deep wells to several barangays of Talim Island, in areas where potable water was not accessible. A fish pen, fish-cage, and quail-raising projects, which the club supported from the start, benefiting indigent families, were now independently operating on their own. The club also continuously maintains its scholarship program sending potential students from poor families to high school and college. Some minor activities were providing assistance during calamities, hospitalization support, gift giving, etc.
Aside from these efforts, members and spouses together, joined hand in hand towards the completion of a clubhouse, a second home to everyone, a common place where each one find oneself involved in projects, committee works and socialization. It is a site where each member and spouse learned and practiced how to be a true Rotarian by heart.
