English Language Arts

Reading

E1 a. The students read 25 books or book equivalents.

E1 b. The student will read and comprehend 4 books about one issue, subject, genre or author.

E1 c. The students read and comprehend informational materials to develop understanding and produce a written or an oral report.

E1 d. The student reads aloud, accurately (in the range of 85-90%), familiar material from the sample reading list, in a way that makes meaning clear to the listener.

Writing

E2 a. The student will produce a report.

E2 b. The student produces a response to literature

E2 c. The student produces a narrative account (fictional or autobiographical.

E2 d. The student produces a narrative procedure.

Speaking and Listening

E3 a. The student participates in a one -to-one conference with the teacher, paraprofessional, or adult volunteer.

E3 b. The student participates in-group meetings.

E3 c. The student prepares and delivers an individual presentation.

E3 d. The student makes informed judgements about television, radio, and film productions.

Conventions, Grammar, and Usage of the English Language

E4 a. The student demonstrates rules of the English language in written and oral work and selects structures and features of language appropriate to the purpose, audience, and context of the work.

E4 b. The student analyzes and revises work to clarify it or make it more effective in communicating the intended messages or thought.

Literature

E5 a. The student responds to non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and drama using interpretive, critical, and evaluative processes.

E5 b. The student will produce work in at least one literary genre that follows the conventions of that genre.
