Whattamen, Whatta-memories

Telling a story about a very close friend, especially one that has just transcended from this world to the next definitely will be very difficult. 

Actors and Whattamen gang members Dominic Ochoa and Marvin Agustin proved this when their reel and real life friend and co-Whattamen member Rico Yan recently passed away. 

Eavesdrop in this rare conversation and see Rico in the eyes of Dominic and Marvin. 

Dominic Ochoa remembers… 

Remembering Rico proved to be hard for Dominic Ochoa. Being one of the closest people in Rico’s life from show business, Dominic has tons of fond and funny memories with the deceased actor. 

"Actually, mukhang tuko si Rico dati.” 

This, Dominic remembers during Rico’s early modeling career in television commercials. But this is not what Dom will miss most about the actor. 

“Siguro yung pang-aasar niya. I didn't really feel this way nung nakita ko siya the first time in La Salle [during the wake]. It was all good memories. Nung nasa dressing room na ako, saka ko lang naalala. Mahirap pala when you're inside ABS kasi napanaginipan ko siya na pauwi na daw kami from Palawan at sinabi niya sa akin ABS tapos naka-smile siya and naka-porma. Dito ko lang nararamdaman na wala na talaga ang kaibigan namin." 

A teary eyed Dominic bursts his heart out every time he talks about his friend. His was pure and genuine memories that no one can take away. 

"Rico's a cool person. Hindi mo mararamdaman na may sama siya ng loob. You won't notice it. Kasama ko yan during the past few days before he past away. Sabi niya masaya ako pare pero hindi mo maiiwasan na kapag mag-isa ka na lang maiiyak ka. And one thing na maipagmamalaki ko sa kaibigan ko at itutuloy ko is his being a gentleman." 

And aside from Rico’s traits, he also remembers that joyous night before that tragic morning. 

"First of all, happy siya. Happy siya bago siya nag-goodnight sa amin. He even said na nung magkakapit bisig tapos he was trying to imitate me, yung garalgal kong boses and he said this is the happiest moment. naalala rin nga niya si Marvin non. Kasi Marvin has a amnnerism, a dance step na "do the full moon" and he would swing it. And that was before we said goodnight.” 

And his message… 

“Bro, we did everything to make you happy. Maraming nagmamahal sa iyo. Wala kang kaaway. Wala kang ginagawang masama. Alam natin ang katotohanan. Your family loves you. We will miss you. Alma ko pinagtatawanan mo lang ako ngayon." 

Marvin Agustin and his memories 

"Mahilig siya mag experiment sa mga necklaces and colors. Mga combi-combination." 

This is just a few of Marvin Agustin’s memories of actor Rico Yan. But one of the fondest is how Rico made his and all of their co-workers everyday workload seem like an easy task. 

"Every morning pinapasarap ni Rico ang mga mood namin kasi sasabihin niya uy ang ganda nung ganyan tapos, ang ganda ng suot mo." 

Not only that, even Rico’s sound advices has stuck to his memory. 

"Ako grabe ako magtrabaho, siya yung nagsasabi sa akin na Marv's easy easy lang sa trabaho. Dapat may bakasayon ka. Yun ang sinasabi niya parati sa akin na meron pang life. I-enjoy mo ang buhay mo. " 

And life they did enjoy. He even remembers the time when he told Rico about his potentials to become the President of the Republic. 

"Nag-usap kami niyan eh, sinabi ko sa kanya na Bro, nararamdaman ko na magiging presidente ka ng Pilipinas. Pero hindi niya kino-confirm tapos tumatawa na lang siya. Alam ko naman kasi na kaya niya. Idol ko iyan magsalita. Magaling iyan." 

And to Rico, here is what he says. 

"Rics! Bro! We'll be strong for you. mag-aalagaan kami. Iyan ang gusto mo. Evene you're family, andito kami for them. Hindi ka mawawala sa buhay namin."
