A Brief Keenan Family History
    Late in the 1800's, with memories of the Potatoe Famine still fresh in their minds, my Grandparents left their beloved Ireland to come to the United States of America. They settled in West Philadelphia and began to raise their family of seven children (4 boys and 3 girls). Most of their sons served in the World Wars. One, my Godfather, served in both World Wars. Two daughters (one a Beauty Queen) married, while the other celebrated over 50 years as a Carmelite Nun.

    My Father was accepted as an Augustinian Seminarian at Villanova, but left. He then worked in the world until he was Drafted into WWII, serving in the Hawaian Islands.

    After the War, my Father stayed with his married Sister, who lived just a few doors down the street from an elderly Irish woman being cared for by her daughter. On the way back from Sunday Mass he hastened his steps and introduced himself...
