Work Focus

In 1999 I founded Big Horse Records/LP., Inc. to promote songs as an adjuvant for recording companies who either required specialized assistance to their existing promotion staffs, or did not possess a promotion staff of its own. Later, Big Horse Records became Big Horse Enterprises and grew into other entrepreneurial areas including capitol venture, consulting, and entertainment related businesses. Today, I specialize and consult clients in four specific areas. Product Marketing, Customer Service, Sales Management, and Communications.

Work History

Sr. Vice President Promotion / Maverick

Maverick was an independent record label owned by Madonna and distributed by Warner Brothers Records. As Sr. VP of Promotion, I managed a staff of fifteen employees, including four Vice Presidents. The job required strong horizontal integration skills, budget management and marketing while helping to create and manage multi million-dollar campaigns for artists such as Alanis Morissette, Prodigy and Deftones.

Vice President Promotion / Curb

Mike Curb, former Lt. Governor of California, asked me to create a Top 40 division for Mike's already successful Country label. I reported directly to Mr. Curb.  As VP of Promotion I managed all expenditures for the creation of the department, including hiring employees and the promotion of music, such as Fun Factory and Michael English to contemporary radio. I also served as executive producer for some new artists signed to Curb. The job required team building leadership experience while working with a minimum of supervision as well as organization and coordination abilities and budget building.

National Director / BMG/Zoo

Zoo Entertainment, once a wholly owned company of BMG Music, hired me to direct the promotion staff from a proactive position; traveling to each market across the United States and working with team members one on one. I became known as the company "trouble shooter" for artist campaigns such as, Matthew Sweet, Tool, 20 Fingers and Green Jelly. I worked closely with the Sr. VP of Promotion. The job required extensive travel, excellent oral and written communication skills, team leadership abilities and budget management.

ABC Radio

Over a period of nine years, split in two terms, I held various management positions within the ABC radio division at WLS in Chicago.

As Program Director of WLS, my responsibilities included overseeing a staff of more than twenty five employees, creating an aural product that would generate both rations and produce revenue, while maintaining the guidelines of acceptability set forth by ABC standards and practices and insuring the invulnerability of the company's broadcast license.

As the Operations Manager my responsibilities broadened to include negotiating on behalf of ABC/WLS with top union representatives from NABET, AFTRA and IBEW, creating and presenting annual budgets, and securing promotion agreements from advertisers.

As the General Manager I oversaw a staff of more than eighty employees and expanded my job repertoire to include the management of a national and local sales staff. I was responsible for setting advertising prices, and was held accountable for meeting the company's financial plan. It's noteworthy to mention that WLS-FM turned a profit for the first time in the stations history under my term as General Manager.

In addition, ABC corporate New York made me part of an acquisition team where I traveled to various markets within the United States and formulated property viability reports, making recommendations considered by top ABC/Capitol City's Presidents before the purchase of additional broadcast properties.

NBC Radio

From 1983 to 1986 I performed many of the duties mentioned above for NBC at their property in San FranciscoKYUU Radio. In 1985 KYUU exceeded the proceeding fiscal years by more than $3MM in both revenues and net profits.
