DOROTHY R. ABKEN
Longtime White Salmon resident Dorothy R. Abken died
last Wednesday. She was 75.
Mrs. Abken was born Feb. 5, 1917 in White Salmon to Lula
M. (Branaman) and Lemuel W. Yarnell. Born and raised in White Salmon, Mrs.
Abken was the secretary and treasurer for Klickitat County Cemetery District
1, a member of the Rebekahs and Women's Circle.
In 1939, she married Ted Abken, worked for Hood River
trucking companies from 1940-'60. In 1960 to '65, she operated a flower shop.
She loved gardening and flowers.
She is survived by her husband Ted of White Salmon; son,
John Abken of White Salmon; daughter, Kay Miles of White Salmon; sisters,
Jane Arnold of White Salmon, Mildred Dickey of White Salmon and Berniece
Wright of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers, Don, Ray, Leonard and Pete Yarnell,
all of White Salmon; six grandchildren and one great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Gardner Funeral
Home in White Salmon, followed by committal at the White Salmon Cemetery.
