Windy City Series 2008
There's a strong possibility that the entire World Series will be played in Chicago. That's right, the Windy City could host a Fall Classic for the first time since 1906, when the White Sox pulled a colossal upset by beating a Cubs team that had won 116 games that season. Eight years ago, the Yankees beat the Mets in New York's Subway Series, and who can forget the earthquake that interrupted the A's-Giants Bay Bridge Series of '89? If the performances of the Cubs and Sox are any indication, then we could have the first all-Chicago Series in over a century, and lots of things have happened since then. This season marks 100 years since the Cubs last won a championship, but they're now among the best teams in baseball, something we don't see too much of. And the Sox are leading their division as well. Keep in mind, though, that there are other contenders that will try to keep this dream Series from happening. In the AL, you have Tampa Bay, Boston, Minnesota and the L.A. Angels still in contention, and on the NL side, the Mets, Phillies, Brewers, Dodgers and Diamondbacks are looking to help extend the Cubs' misery. Oh, what could've been: I remember watching the 2003 NLCS, especially the game in which Steve Bartman interfered with a foul ball, costing his Cubbies the pennant and making him the most hated man in Chicago. I hope that this time things will be different, but you never know. The Red Sox have proved that curses can be broken, so the Cubs can watch highlight reels of Boston's 2004 and 2007 Series wins for inspiration. As much as I've enjoyed the fact that my beloved White Sox won it all in 2005, the only thing that would be much sweeter than that is that they get to play against the Cubs. So I'll be rooting for the Cubs to go all the way, at least until they get to the World Series. Sorry, Cubbies fans, but my heart still belongs to the White Sox. Anyway, I still have hope that the ultimate dream Series will happen this year. So, in closing, I'd like to say Go Cubs, and Go White Sox! Good luck to both teams in October! 2008-09-25 22:13:21 GMT
