Well, today is October 31, which can only mean one thing: It's Halloween again! I've managed to outgrow the holiday, once I found out that it was mainly for children. It's just like Christmas, only scarier and much easier to outgrow. I remember, as a kid growing up in Chicago, how I used to dress up for the occasion, usually by wearing a mask and parading down the street to visit different people's houses (with adult supervision, of course!). Nowadays, this isn't as common as it used to be, most likely because all of my childhood pals have since grown up, gotten married and had kids of their own. I don't get to celebrate Halloween as much as I used to, but I still get dressed for the holiday. This year, I'm planning to go as Brian Urlacher. I know what you're thinking: "How can it be so?" Well, he's white and I'm black, but I will assure you that race has nothing to do with my choice of costume. Instead, No. 54 has become my favorite player on the current Bears roster. From time to time, I also wear my No. 34 Walter Payton jersey, but I wore it watching the last Bears game, so I had to go with Urlacher instead. I've also gone as Scottie Pippen, Frank Thomas (no relation), Horace Grant (and I even had my own goggles, too!) and even Chris Chelios of the Blackhawks. When I first moved to Baltimore in 2000, I went as Ray Lewis of the Ravens, back when they were threatening the 1986 Bears' record for the fewest points allowed. I still have No. 52 in my closet, but I don't wear it as much as I once did. Anyway, I've already gone out and bought candy, and sometime this afternoon, I will set up my place for a Halloween party, because some of my friends are coming over tonight. And I can't forget the trick-or-treaters either. After all, this is their holiday too! Well, I must get ready for the party, so Happy Halloween to everyone, and I hope they have a safe trick-or-treating time out there.
