Union Square Morning

Acrylic on Canvas, 2002

My most recent work, Union Square Morning shows the building on the corner of 17th and Broadway, on the northwestern corner of Union Square Park in New York City. Again, I was captivated by the early morning shadows cast by the fire escape as well as by the building itself. This building was erected sometime in the mid 1800’s, and currently houses the Union Square Deli on the ground floor. At one time the studio of painter Isabel Bishop was located on the 4th floor (1934-44), which I did not know until after I painted it. I have worked in this part of New York for the past five years.
