Mother's Love"Killing a human life is wrong (Worrell 2)."
"By abortion the mother does not learn to love, but to kill even her own child to solve her problems (
Health 42)."
"Abortion is the removal of the fetus from the uterus before it's mature enough to live on its own (National Abortion Federation)."
Which of the three statements are true? We can scientifically be sure of only number 3. Everyone can agree that abortion is the purposeful removal of a human embryo from the life-giving shelter of the mother's womb. We cannot agree on an acceptable definition of "right"; however, by accepting number 3, we must morally accept the others equally.
We have "Pro-Life", "Right to Life", and "Pro-Choice" rallies and abortion clinic bombings. We see televised instances of "fetuses" thrown against the outer walls of abortion clinics, and doctor's being murdered. We are bombarded daily with the respective propaganda of each camp, and yet we still discuss abortion in secret; behind the walls of our homes and hearts. Why in secret? Extremists. It is no longer safe in the land of the brave and home of the free. There are those who would sacrifice your freedoms, and your life, on the altar of their God of merciless hate.
There are those who say: "abortion should never be allowed, except . . .."
If these Holy Bible thumpin' Neanderthals would actually read their own "Life-Guide", then they would know that God only deals in absolutes! He never said: "adultery was wrong unless . . .", nor did he say: "homosexuality could be acceptable if . . .." The God of these cretins has supposedly changed his mind only one time that we know of; when he was going to destroy the earth again. Christ's intercession on our behalf was what changed his mind. "What about Isaac and Abraham?" you ask. God merely tested Abraham's faith; Isaac was never in danger of death. So there - let us dispense with the religious trappings, and concern ourselves with the rights of the mother vs. the rights of the fetus.
Landrum Shettles, in his essay "Human Life Begins at Conception" quotes Catherine and William Odell, from the January 16, 1983 issue of Visitor magazine, as stating that human life begins:
. . when a sperm cell unites with an ovum or egg cell. Prior to this moment, the ovum was inching its way toward and through the womb in just the same manner as do the hundreds of ova that are produced during a woman's productive years. At the moment of fertilization, however, this ovum takes on an entirely different destiny. The sperm penetrates the ovum and 15,000 genes from the nucleus of the sperm and 15,000 from the nucleus of the ovum form a unique combination that is nothing less than a new human being at the earliest stages of his or her life.
If we are to continue as an enlightened higher creature, we must recognize this as a scientific truth as well as a moral truth. Abortion is murder. In this country murder is legal; If it affords a convenience. Capital punishment of unwanted children affords those "irresponsible many" among us to continue in their lives as if nothing happened, and many will abort again.
Convenience equals Pro-Choice for the mother and Pro-Choice equals a Right to Life: We are all Pro-Life. A Child's right to a Mother's love should outweigh a Mother's right to convenience. It is scientifically, and morally unsound to murder our species. We fight for the rainforests, spotted owls, and various other inhabitants of our planet. We must endeavor to end the unnecessary annihilation of our children.
Is it not enough that we render our eggs and sperm infertile? Is it not enough that we butcher our bodies for prevention's sake? Must we also authorize the slaughter of those who successfully run the gauntlet of procreation? Why must it be an act of God to put an end to our sin?
A Child's right to a Mother's love should outweigh a Mother's right to convenience.
