Trees the size of small automobiles in diameter and hundreds of meters tall spreading out in every direction, nearly obscuring the nearby mountain entirely. Three tall men dressed in basic armor stood opposite a fit young red head dressed in similar armor. No silence lay here, but the tension could be measured by the bucket. She looked at her opponents, slowly raising the crystal blue sword clasped tightly in her weathered hands. Outside, she was quiet, calm, her lips pressed into a tight, angry line. Inside, she was seething. *Ikari you fucking idiot.* "Today, Asuka Sohryu Zepplin-Langly, we shall finally destroy you!" Shouted one of the three tall men as he closed on her rapidly, a set of sharpened claws on his forearm whistling through the air in a metal shriek. It was after the trio's inevitable defeat that the blue-eyed red head stopped to reflect on how she came to be in this particular situation, and her life situation in general. But as the sun dropped lazily towards the horizon and the shadows of the deep green woods grew long and dark, she figured that such contemplation would be more fitting in a safe camp that was in a defendable position. ---------- Quest of Infinity [working title] Part 1: History, Rewritten Chapter 1: Accidents by Rick Spiff Disclaimer: Think I own this stuff? End Legal Junk. ---------- ---------- Outline: ---------- Bandits in the woods should just be a teaser! The real opening is when Asuka is called before the commander and asked to find the dragonballs. She's given a government ID, some supplies, and simply leaves. The Commander also mentions some training Shinji will be getting while she's away. As U.N. and NERV agents lurk around every corner and Asuka has survived full SAS survival training, she should be able to handle the request easily. Shinji is stuck being yelled at by a man who probably thinks his name is "Drill Seargant." Rei provides some backup, and the trio is more or less reserved for comic relief. This adventure occurs not long after the Magma Diver episode, when an unusual lul in Angel activity has the Commander feeling a little antsy. He has his own, mysterious (duh) reasons for sending Asuka on this little journey, but for now we won't bother with those details. First Asuka searches through Tokyo-3, getting into the groove of things and gathering information in her little notebook when her ediac memory fails her. She runs into Hikari once before leaving, when the pig-tailed girl offers her help. Next Asuka takes to the deep woods outside of Tokyo-3, tracking down her first target on foot, by rail, and occasionally by hitchhiked vehicle. Searching for the dragon radar, the next important people she runs across are Goku and Gohan. However, they don't pass themselves off as father and son, are both grown up, and go by the names Ken and Kazuki (respectively). Though transparent, they are quite honest (they tell her they live by aliases and that they won't tell her their real names). Gohan has the Z sword and Goku his old magic staff and the pair are dressed in heavily modified fighting gi. They also have an arsenal of high-tech weapons and try to act like normal humans who can really fight. Though unsure of Asuka's mindset, they agree to come with her, having nothing else better to do. Finding Bulma Briefs deceased was bad enough. Now that no-one knows how to make a Dragon Radar, things have gone from bad to worse. They start checking up on all the legends that Asuka learned about before leaving town. Thus begins our adventure. A mysterious evil, backed by the SEELE council in secret is trying to foil Asuka at her assigned task. It isn't long before Goku tries to give Asuka a lesson in activating her ki and once it backfires, they realize something is seriously wrong with this girl. Further adventures result in Asuka acknowledging the worst: She needs some serious help. Shinji grows a bit of a spine back home and new, fearsome weapons are developed. The delivery of a functional Unit-03 and Unit-04 follows and Toji and Hikari are made pilots. A little faux paux that has the pair fighting at first, then acting sickeningly romantic after a while. After some difficult battles, Asuka begins some psychological training, removing the roadblocks of her own personality. As she feels time is short, she uses some dangerous techniques to do this. Once the block is broken, she finds herself immensely powerful and understands that a 'human' like her could trigger third impact. SEELE is aware of this as well and sends Karowu to defeat her. Several bad clashes later, Asuka recieves a crystal sword from Gohan and learns about to two fighter's past, and how they've been stuck in an Alternate Future for a while now. Asuka promises to use the dragonballs to send them home (if the DBs in this universe work as advertised). Slowly, an intricate plot is unraveled (hey, you know who wrote this, right?). Basically, each of the Eva pilots is 'special' and has powers great enough to easily destroy the earth and kill off the human race. Thankfully, their sanity acts as an instinctive check to this. When that insanity is systematicaly dissolved by the 'events' leading up to Third Impact, the power is unleashed in a specific way that it dissolves humanity to make something new from it. Just throwing this power around won't work, hence Asuka's inability to trigger Third Impact all by her lonesome. And her sanity? Destroyed long ago and now her power is held back by an intricate web of childish emotions. Once they were broken down, she learned to keep her powers at a low level, as Gohan and Goku have learned. Karowu is more or less her arch nemesis as he works for the enemy, knowing what she knows. Based on this single ideological difference, she eventually finds herself killing him. Months sweep by over the course of this adventure, and so do the Angel attacks (in all-weather situations; want actual battles? Write some side stories). By the time this insanely powerful and quite sexy warrior- woman returns from her journies afar, she has changed a great deal (and all for the positive ). And after that? Well, history can sometimes take care of itself.
