The CBC's English service was accused
of bullying by a group seeking a community radio licence in Quebec's Eastern
Townships. Radio Communautaire Missisquoi had applied for 101.9
FM, and no one else was interested.
But the CBC suddenly applied for the same
frequency on the application deadline. The Corp. said it needed a channel
to fill in service gaps left over from the conversion of CBC Radio One
Montreal from AM to FM.
Nancy Wood from CBC Montreal's Radio Noon
spoke with Chris Severs (spelling?), a businessman who supports Radio Communautaire
Missisquoi's aplications, and Philip Savage, Toronto-based manager of coverage
and regulatory affairs from CBC Radio.
(Aired on CBC's Radio
Noon on March 15, 2001)
