To design a basic circuit that every motherboard must have for video audio and maybe for the disks access. For the video, as an example, this means that the board must have all the output circuit (connectors and the basic signal cicuit that all video boards have). The difference between one solution and another will be a video processor (an integrated circuit) socket built and replaceable by the user. Companies that complies to the project may retain the intelectual property of its processors but cannot charge for it. Audio and disk access must go by the same way.
To use a new system for the expansions slots to alow the boards, not provided by the basic standard, to be in the same plane of the main board. The standard must provide a hot swap for all the boards. The expansion boards must obey the rule of the basic circuit and the socket buit processors solutions.
If possible present a new removable media standard compatible with the old 3&1/2 disks, but with a lot more storage capacity.
The disk access standard must have serial connection sollutions (similar as serial ATA) and will foresee development of solid state storage devices.
