Amiga Phoenix Project - Projeto Amiga Fênix - Hardware Description

Clique aqui para a versão em português.
The STI (Sony, Toshiba and IBM) Cell will be the processor.
Initially three processor will be foreseen. Two glued Cells for the tasks that requires a high amount of processing, such as audio and video coding-decoding (mpeg, mp3, etc), 3D processing and so on. A third processor will manage all the peripherals and if necessary and availble, help the other two.
More processors could be added through specific sockets to help any of the three original ones.
Reversal compatibility will be granted via emulation.
PCx86 compatibility maybe availble through emulation also (Software compatibility not hardware).
The goal is to achieve RT2 (rt square) with at least 12 colors bits (RT2 = RTRT or Real Time Ray Tracing).
The Graphics/Vídeo subsystem will have an optional video capture input and at least two outputs, one with pure RGB (to keep compatibility with actual VGA monitors) and another with video component encoding to connect to TV sets that have this kind a connection (I think that most of the new TV sets have it).
DVI standard outputs maybe availble and probably will.
The Music/Audio subsystem will have an at least four channel output, beeing compatble with a 3D sound system (Dolby Surround or THX or both). This system will also have at least 4 and up to 24 audio inputs.
XDR technology must be used for main system memory.
There will be only one main system memory (besides the internal Cells ones). This memory will have reserved address spaces for video and audio buffer and of course the lasting memory will be used by the system.
One flash Ic will contain all the firmware for video, audio and general processing. If an upgrade need arises it coul be changed to two or more Ics.
