August 31, 2003
Well, its been a long time since I've wrote a journal, I guess I've been busy lately... what can you expect really? I am now living in Halifax after all... oh yeah, I can't get ahead of myself here huh? Well, today is August 31st, a Sunday... I've been up here since the afternoon of August 28th with Alice, its been really weird... Well, everyone probably should have that feeling that "Oh, parents are coming back sometime..." even me, and its been freaking me out, since we're living in an apartment now, Alice & I. At night, it gets quite weird. We hear walking upstairs and outside our apartment door, so we start thinking that my parents are back, since they brought us up in the U-Haul truck, but they left early on Friday morning on the motorcycle that they drove on the back of the U-Haul, that was interesting.
It only took us until about 5 o'clock to get almost fully settled in on Thursday evening. Considering we left at about 11 from home, and its a three hour drive to Victoria Drive in Halifax where we are, thats pretty good timing I suppose? We weren't really settled in that one day though, we're still not TOTALLY settled in... we still have a bunch of unpacked boxes in the kitchen as well as a corner full of garbage that still has to be thrown out... I guess we can't be bothered just yet! Even though the dumpster is just down the driveway. Oh, before I forget, I finally have developed and scanned pictures of our apartment building & the Atlantic Media Institute where I'm going to college at. I'm still quite scared about going to school there... but the intructors I've met, Troy & Garry, seem really really nice. I've had a lot of laughs with them, and I've only met Garry twice and Troy once as of Friday. All of the students I have met seem really cool too, everyone seems crazy. Just up my alley.
We were supposed to get groceries on Friday afternoon, but we never got any major groceries until yesterday... all we had in the house was bread, peanut butter, a pizza & some juice/pop. I guess it was enough to hold us off for a couple days... it was over $36 in groceries that we bought on Thursday afternoon when my parents were staying the night here... of course, my mom needed milk & sugar for coffee and all that, blah.
Well, we still haven't gotten our student loans yet... I guess we won't be getting them for a little while, that really sucks, but my Royal Credit Line my mother signed me up for is helping a lot... considering I had 800 dollars to my name beforehand, and then with this Credit Line it gave me my rent of $610 & my $241 dollars in groceries! I think we may actually be able to live now. Unfortunately, I'm writing this without a phone, nor internet. I probably won't get internet until probably Tuesday or Wednesday (2nd or 3rd of September.)
I really like it up here... but I miss everyone down home. My mom & dad, but also all my friends... Jeremy & Soup, the whole two of them. I was supposed to drop into Jeremy's to pick up my money he owes me, but I didn't get a chance to... lucky you! I had to take Alice to her house on Wednesday night in the LHS, and when I hopped in, it was low on gas so I needed to gas up before I went anywhere! I borrowed $5.00 from her to pay for some gas, and then from there, went to her house. There, we were supposed to pick up some left-over blankets and sheets that were supposed to have been washed, but weren't! From her house, empty handed, I went to take a DVD back to Crowell's Midnight Store. After we dropped that off, we went to the Church, down the road from Crowell's, and across from Brass Hill, to turn around because it was hectic by the store to pull out there. When I pulled out of the Baptist church parking lot, the transmission went all messed up and started slipping... so the car is fucked up... and perfect timing, just when my parents are going to PEI and taking me to Halifax in a U-Haul... my dad was pissed, but it wasn't as bad as when dad and I had to take the U-Haul back in Halifax!
When we unloaded all the stuff off the back of the U-Haul, including the motorcycle we had to take the U-Haul back to a registered U-Haul distributor, blah. Unfortunately, my mother wasn't very interested in driving a big 21' long, 11' high U-Haul truck back into the city to be dropped off, so I had to... my dad put me in the drivers seat of the truck and he took his motorcycle. Unforunately, yes, I'll use that word again, the motorcycle wasn't working very well, at least after he turned it off and tried to start it. Apparently, the motorcycle doesn't start very well while its hot. So we had got pissed off at it twice or so, just trying to figure out where the hell this U-Haul depot was. And hurray for us, to make things better, when we finally found the U-Haul place, we found that it was nothing more than a huge hole in the ground, because it was next to a garage and that got demolished and took the U-Haul place with it! So instead of dropping the U-Haul off Thursday night, dad got pissed off, made me drive through the rotary in the truck and came back to my apartment to crash for the night.
Friday morning, 8am, my parents decided they were going to leave for Charlottetown. My dad drove the U-Haul to the bottom of a hill, and instead of driving the motorcycle on the back, he hopped on it, pushed off with his feet and coasted up the back of the truck. Now that was interesting. After a few minutes of strapping the bike inside, they shut the door and said their good-byes. Apparently, as far as I understand, on the way to drop off the U-Haul, the motorcycle fell over inside the truck... they had to replace all the oil inside the motorcycle. Other than that, I think that about sums up everything thats happened lately. I only have until Tuesday morning to do whatever I want now... I already bought my bus pass, but I can't use it until I get my student ID card taken, which I probably won't get until Thursday or Friday... unless they don't check for my student ID! =)
