"Uub," the older woman called from the kitchen, "Uub, come here." The young man poked his head in the doorway, "What is it, mother?" He walked into the room and over to her. She looked over him; he was holding his shirt in his hand and had his shoes on. A sure sign, "Are you going out?" she asked.
He nodded. "I thought you said you would help me with her," she tossed her head to the side, directing the attention on a baby sitting in a worn down high chair, gurgling happily at nothing. He smiled.
"Nope," he pulled a shirt over his head and fixed the sleeves, "It's Sean's turn. He said he would do it today if I helped out Saturday." His mother smiled.
"They really look up to you," she brushed some dust off his shirt, "Well, go then." He nodded and kissed her on the cheek.
"Later," before walking out the door he patted the small girl on the head. "Bye bye, Sasha." The small child giggled. Once she heard the door closed, she walked to the little girl and picked her up. She sighed.
"Can you believe it, Sasha? He's already 20 and still lives at home. He doesn't even have a girlfriend," Sasha laughed and held out her arms. She laughed too, "Well, except us."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Uub stuck his hands in his pockets of his jeans and continued on his way. After watching the sunrise, he had just started walking, not really knowing where he was going. He liked living in the woods; it was so quiet and peaceful.
"Oh! You rotten piece of SHIT!"
Uub stopped walking. 'Okay, scratch that,' he thought, 'the woods USED to be quiet." He walked in the direction of where the shouting came from. He saw a car and hid behind at tree to see if anybody was around. He peeked out from behind the large tree and stared at the car.
There was indeed a person, obviously the same person the shout came from. It was a girl who looked about sixteen from where he was standing, but he couldn't see her face. She was sitting crossed legged on the hood of her car, reading some sort of book.
"You bastard!" She again said, quite loudly. "How could you...," she trailed off. Uub gulped, did she know he was there? She looked away from the book directly at the tree. Uub quickly pulled out of sight. Her blue eyes flashed.
"Who's there? I know I saw someone, come out!" She demanded. Uub sighed and walked out from behind the tree, his head bowed down.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to spy, it was that..," he looked up, "Bra?" Bra smiled.
"Oh, Uub. I didn't know you came out into this area," she closed her book and held her place with her finger. "What're you doing here?" Uub blushed.
"Uh..well..Besides the fact that I live around here, I heard someone and wanted to..." she interrupted him with a cough.
"Oh crap, was I yelling at my book again?" He nodded and she slapped her forehead. "Sorry. It's a habit of mine. Papa says I'm just like Mama." He nodded again, letting her do the talking. "So, how long has it been since we've last seen each other? Two years?" She laughed, "I swear, after Goku trained you, no one sees you anymore."
"Ya', well..I have my family to take care of," he said without realizing it. Bra's eyes widened at his comment and he then noticed what he said. "Oh..uh...well...You've grown up. Last I saw you, you were only this tall." He gestured with his hand, trying to change the subject. And it was true what he said. She had grown up. She was no longer the whiny little fourteen-year-old she was, but she had turned into a quite beautiful young woman. He blinked. 'Why did I think that?' He felt his cheeks go red, luckily Bra didn't notice. She was talking again.
"Ya. It's too bad that we don't see you. I know you got along with my brother and Goten. Especially when they decided to put a couple of frogs in my bed. With the help of you I might add," she said raising an eyebrow. He shifted, "Oh..uh..sorry about that."
"Oh, don't worry about. They're so immature sometimes, it doesn't even bother me anymore," she tossed her hair and smirked, "and besides, you weren't around long enough to see what I did to them." They laughed. Uub noticed how cute she was when she laughed, and she did it a lot. He liked it.
Her laughter died down and her mouth dropped into a frown, "Speaking of my brother, he's sorta the reason I'm out here." Uub leaned against a tree.
"Oh?"
"Ya. He was making fun of what I was reading. So I left, trying to find a quiet place to read. Or at least it was quiet until I started yelling at my book." She shrugged.
"What are you reading?" He inquired.
"Oh..uh.. Horror with a twist of romance. I like horror books," again, she shrugged. "I don't know. Pan and Trunks say I'm turning into a Goth. They makes it sound like a bad thing." She pouted. Uub looked at her hands, noticing now that her fingernails were painted black.
"I don't think it's a bad thing," he said, trying to lighten the mood. She grinned at him, "Thanks. But," she put a finger to her lips, "shhhh. I don't want my father to find out. He would think I belonged to a cult of something. Which I don't, just to clear that up. I just kinda like the Goth 'look'." She said matter-of-factly. Uub smiled.
She pulled out a bookmark and placed it in the book. "You know Uub," she said with out looking at him, "You should smile more. You look good when you smile." Uub blushed instantly, "And shy too. You don't get compliments often, do you?" He shook his head and she put her hands on her hips. "Well, that's not right. A guy as good looking as you should." She giggled when his cheeks turned even redder.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Bra looked up at the sky. "The sky looks pretty, doesn't it?" She was laying on top the hood of the car, Uub now sitting next to her. She wasn't sure how long they had been talking, but it was a nice change from her normal, pampered life. Uub leaned his head back.
"Ya, it's real clear today," he snapped his head back. "How often do you actually look at the sky?" She closed her eyes and sighed.
"Not much. I used to... I think. I'm not sure." She giggled, "When I was little, I would try to find pictures in the clouds."
"That one looks like Shenron," he said, pointing. Bra opened her eyes.
"What?" He pointed at it again.
"Come on, look at the sky. Live a little," he pointed again, "That one looks like a fish." Bra looked up and smirked.
"That one looks like a car," she crossed her arms. "See, I'm not totally unimaginative. I can 'live a little, as you so kindly put it."
"That one looks like you beating up your brother."
Bra looked around franticly, "Where? Where?" She kept looking until she heard Uub laugh. Her face fell, "There is no cloud that looks like that, is there?" He shook his head. "Well, I feel like an ass now. Okay Uub, you win. Good job." She put out her fist. He didn't move. "Good job," she repeated. She sighed when he still did nothing. "Jeez, you really don't get out much, do you? Okay, put out your fist." He did.
"Okay first, I hit your fist, like so," she put her fist over his and brought it down over his, "Then you do the same thing." He did. "Okay. Now we hit out fist together." He did. "There. You got it. Let's try again, faster now."
"Bra?" She made a 'hmm' noise. "What was the point of that?" She looked at her hand.
"You know what? I'm not sure. It's a different high-five. Trunks and Goten have their own 'secret' one that only they know." Her smiled grew wider; "I have an idea. Let's make one up ourselves." He looked at her like it was stupid. "Oh come on. Live a little," she said, using his own line against him. He sighed and agreed. She clapped. "Goodie." She grabbed his hand. "First," her stomach growling interrupted her. She turned a light shade of red. "Sorry, I didn't have breakfast. Probably not good for a Saiya-jin." She checked her watch. "10 o'clock? I've been out here for almost three hours?" She let go of his hand and grabbed her hair. "Without food?!?"
"Um, my house is near here. If you're hungry, we could go there," Uub said quietly. Bra's eyes brightened. "Really? That would be nice." He hopped off the car, "Okay." She also hopped off, "Thanks, Uub. And I can meet your family!" she said excitedly.
'I don't know if that's good," he thought, watching her put the car into a capsule. "Wow," he said. She looked at the tiny, pill sized container in her hand.
"You have seen a capsule before, haven't you?"
"Of course. Just not often. I think they're neat," he said, suddenly feeling like an idiot. But she just smiled and walked next to him, "All right. Let's go."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
He opened the door of the small house and sighed inwardly. He again, felt low about himself. This girl was the richest in the world, why would she, after seeing it, want to stay.
"So this is your place, huh?" She said, almost reading his thoughts, "I like it. It's quaint." She smiled.
"Ya'. I guess. Um.. It's kinda dirty inside....," he trailed off and walked in, Bra following. She noticed it was rather empty, with the occasional child's toy thrown carelessly on the floor.
"I'm home," Uub called. Bra knew she felt the house move.
"UUB'S HOME!" Called three energetic voices. Uub laughed as three dark haired children came running out, two from where Bra guessed was either a kitchen or bedroom, one appearing out of nowhere in the only hall in the house. Uub kneeled down and picked up the littlest one, a little girl about five.
Uub ruffled her hair, "Hi, Tanja. What're you doin'?" She smiled.
"I've been helpin' mommy and Sean," she said proudly. They all started talking excitedly to Uub, Bra watching from behind him. While Bra's eyes wandered around, looking at everything, a VERY pregnant woman came of the same room the two older children had run from, a teen-age boy following her with a baby. The boy smiled.
"Hey, Uub. You wanna hold her? She's been crying for 10 minutes strait. I think she wants you," he nodded and instead of putting down the one child he was already holding, she climbed on top of his shoulders. The baby was placed in his arms and he cradled her against his body. The woman smiled, Bra noticed how tired she was. She was the one to notice Bra.
"Well. Hello there, a friend of Uub's I'm guessing?" Bra realized she was spoken to, and nodded, "Yup." The children stopped talking.
The young boy who ran out with his sister spoke. "Is she your girlfriend, Uub?" he asked. Uub coughed and turned red. "Ethan....," he warned. Bra laughed and patted the child's head.
"No. I'm not Uub's girlfriend," he touched Uub's shoulder, "Just a friend." She smiled at him. Uub nodded. The little girl on his shoulders spoke out.
"I think she's be a pretty girlfriend. She has pretty eyes," she grabbed Uub's hair and leaned in front of him, "Don't you think so, Uub?"
"Thank you," said Bra. The other girl stood in front of Bra.
"They're right," she glanced at Uub and motioned to Bra that she wanted to whisper something. Bra kneeled down, "I'll tell you this, if you ever do want to date my brother, go slow. He's very shy." Bra looked over a Uub, and laughed, making him feel nervous. 'What are they talking about?' He wondered.
"I'll remember that. Thanks," Bra whispered back, then straightening up. "Well, Uub. Aren't you going to introduce me?" She placed her hands on her waist.
"Uh..sure," he pointed to his shoulder, "This is Tanja..."
"I'm FIVE!" she interrupted, holding out her hand. Bra smiled.
"Wow. Five years old, that's great," she said. Tanja beamed. Uub pointed to the two that ran in together.
"These are Genevieve and Ethan. Twins."
"You can call me 'Gen' if you want. Genevieve's long to say. We're ten." Bra nodded and Uub continued.
"This is Sean. And since everybody would like you to know their age, he's thirteen." The pregnant woman held out her hand.
"I'm Angela. And who are you, dear? You look familiar," Bra took her hand and shook it.
"I'm Bra Briefs." Angela's eyes widened.
"The Bra Briefs. Daughter of Bulma Briefs?!" Bra grinned, "The one and only." She looked like she was going to fall over with surprise.
"The richest girl in the world, in my house. You must forgive me, it's a bit of a mess right now, but make yourself at home..."
"Mom! Calm down," Uub told her. "We won't actually be here long. Bra was hungry so I..."
"Oh! Okay, Um..I'll get something for you, dear. Will only take a moment," she ran off into the kitchen, most of the children following her.
"We'll help," the called. Bra blinked.
"People with money aren't common here," Uub stated, pulling Tanja off his shoulders with one hand, placing her on the ground. "We'll be right there. Go help mom." She nodded, skipping into the kitchen.
"I like them," Bra said. She pointed to the baby Uub still held, "Who's that?" Uub looked down and laughed, reminding Bra of Goku for a moment.
"Oh! I nearly forgot about her. She was so quiet. This is Sasha. She's a year of as of yesterday," he smiled proudly. He noticed Bra's gaze fixed heavily on the child. "Do you want to hold her?" She shifted.
"I'm not sure. I've never really held a baby before...," Uub looked surprised. It was something he had always been doing since he was two. He smiled sympathetically, "It's not hard. Here," He placed the baby in Bra's arms, showing her how to hold it. Sasha made a small gurgle noise. Bra giggled.
"She looks just like you, Uub. She..," Bra stopped short.

"I have my family to take care of."

Uub noticed the far away look in Bra's eyes. "Uh.. Bra?" She shook her head and turned her face to his. She looked almost hurt.
"Is.. is she..," She trailed off. When Uub realized what she was implying, he started waving his arms around.
"No, no! She's my half-sister." Bra's frown turned into a smiled. "Oh," she looked at the baby. "She certainly is cute," she walked toward the kitchen, "Come on. They're waiting."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
As Bra was sitting there at the kitchen table, she noticed there wasn't much food in the house. It probably suited them fine, but it made her feel a little guilty taking some of it. Angela placed a placed a plate with a sandwich on it in front of Bra. "Sorry it's not more," Bra smiled.
"Oh. It's fine. Thank you."
"So polite," she waved over to Uub, who was leaning against the wall, holding Sasha, "Uub. Come and sit down."
"We're fine here, thanks," he said, not really paying attention. Angela laughed, "I think he likes ya'," she whispered to Bra. Before Bra could reply, she walked out of the room. "I'm going to rest now. If I don't see you later Bra, good-bye. It was nice having you as a guest."
"Thank you," Bra said, taking a bit of her sandwich.
Tanja climbed on the table and sat in front of Bra. "So how old are you?" She asked with curiosity. Bra swallowed her food.
"Sixteen," she answered, taking another bite. The other three children sat or stood around her.
"That's a year younger than our other brother," Ethan stated. Bra looked surprised.
"Oh? I wasn't aware that you had another brother," she eyed Uub.
"Well, he probably isn't important enough for Uub to mention," Genevieve stated. Uub mumbled something about 'girlfriend stealing jerk', but Bra wasn't sure.
"Okay, Gen. That's enough," Uub said without emotion. 'They would have to bring him up. I'm just glad he's not here.'
Sean nodded over towards Uub; "He hasn't had a girlfriend for four or five years. You seem nice. And you're pretty too," he crossed his arms and smiled, "And believe me, if you didn't pass our standards," he gestured around him, "You couldn't even get close to Uub."
"She's not my girlfriend"
Bra patted his cheek and stood up. "You all look up to Uub, don't you?" They all nodded.
"Of course. He's our best influence," Sean said.
"That's so nice. I wish I a younger sibling. But no, I just have a twenty-eight year old pain-in-the-butt." They all laughed. Uub gave the baby to Ethan.
"We should get going now. Say good-bye to Bra," he told them. They all said their 'good-byes' and 'come agains' as they exited the room.
"So, Uub. Who's this 'other brother?" she asked.
"Oh, James. Just be lucky you didn't have to..."
"Did I hear my name, dear, dear brother?" They looked at the dark figure in the doorway. Uub frowned.
"James."
The man walked out of the shadows and noticed Bra.
"Well, well, well. Who do we have here?" She held out her hand politely.
"Bra Briefs." His eyebrow arched as he took her hand.
"A pleasure to meet you. I'm James, as I'm sure you figured out," he bent down to kiss her hand, but Bra pulled it away to fast. Uub smirked. James narrowed his eyes at him.
"And what are you smirking about?" He straightened up. "So, what's a delinquent like you doing with a lady as lovely as her? Too rich for you I think. Why don't you let me..."
"Stop it, James. She's just my friend," he took her hand, "And if you don't mind, we were just leaving." He tried to push by him, but James blocked the way.
"What's the matter Uub? I just get home and not even a hello? Is that the way to talk to your only brother?"
"You're not my only brother. I told you to stop saying that. They are as much as my siblings as they are yours."
"They're not!" He screamed. "Come on Uub. We've been through this a thousand times!" He smacked Uub's cheek. Bra knew it probably didn't hurt, after being trained by Goku, but it would probably leave a mark.
"You're such an idiot, Uub. That's why you can't every get a girlfriend. Hell! You barely have any friends. You know why? Because you're always helping mom with those little cretins that you dare to call 'family'! You always have to be perfect, so polite, looking so 'cool' with that stupid hair.....!"
"HEY!" Bra interrupted, furious. "Who are you to talk? He loves his family, and judging by what I've seen here, that's more than you could ever do. I like Uub and I like his hair!" She pressed her lips to Uub's.
Uub wasn't quite sure what to do, but when she slid her tongue in his mouth, he threw all caution to the wind and kissed her back, pulling her closer with the hand that wasn't holding hers.
She pulled away and glared at James, "You'll never even be half the man that he is. Let's go Uub." They walked out the door.
"She's a spoiled little rich daddy's girl! She'll just leave you Uub! They all do, and then she'll come to me! Just like Marisa!" He 'hmphed' and turned around, only to come face to face with all the others.
"Always have to get that last word in, eh James?" Sean said, smirking. Genevieve and Tanja made kissing noises.
"SHUT UP!" James yelled. The stopped and ran back into the kitchen. Ethan stuck his head back out.
"Hey James," he puckered his lips, "Kiss kiss!" He laughed as James made a growling noise.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Sorry," Bra said, "But it looked like you wanted to get out of there. It was the only thing I could think of at the moment." Uub blushed and grinned.
"It's okay." Bra laughed.
"Even if what he said was true about you having no friends and all that. You sure can kiss. Tell him Bra Briefs said so." She winked. He didn't answer, just turned even more red and looked at the ground.
"Well, anyway. I really liked your family, Uub. They were nice and they really loved you. It was so different that my family sometimes. Don't get me wrong, we are a loving family, but, I don't know. You're family was just different," she paused. "Speaking of which, what did James mean when he said he was your only brother?"
"He is," Uub said quietly.
"What do you mean?"
"My only full brother. Remember I told you that Sasha was my half-sister? Everyone from Sean down are only half-siblings like her."
"Did your father leave your mother or something?" He shook his head.
"No. He died. He got sick," Uub looked like he was going to cry. "My mother's new husband, the father of the others, loves her and his children. And I guess he likes me well enough, but he never got a long with James. James never really made an effort to like him," He sighed. "James wasn't always like that. We used to be really close, our father and us. I kinda miss that sometimes. Now James is just content with making my life miserable by making me feel low about myself," He smiled at Bra. "But don't let my life trouble you."
Bra smiled sadly, "Uub. I had no idea that...I'm sorry."
"Don't be. It's not your problem."
It was quiet a few more minutes, and Bra hated silence. It got so loud. She looked at their hands, still connected. "Uub? Um..."
"Yes?"
"If you don't mind my asking, who's Marisa?"
"My ex-girlfriend. We were dating for a year when she decided to tell me she was seeing James for three months."
Bra gasped. "What a awful thing to do!" Uub nodded.
"Um.. to change the subject. Can you fly?" Bra shook her head.
"Trunks was going to make some time to teach me, but he hasn't yet." She pouted. "Why?"
"Oh, well there's just some where I wanted to show you, it takes only 30 minutes to fly, well, actually, it depends on how fast you're going. But it takes two hours to walk there. But it doesn't matter, it's not that special. But you do have your car, or I could carry you...," he was rambling now. Bra put her hand to his mouth.
"Walking, would be just fine.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Bra hugged her knees to her chest, they had been here hours, but she didn't mind. She liked talking with Uub, learning how he lived, what his thoughts were on the world and little things like that. They had just been talking about nothing in particular. She looked over the area that Uub had taken her to. It was a secluded cliff edge, with trees pretty much surrounding it. Under the cliff was a small lake, the sun reflecting off the water. Bra guessed that she could probably jump off the ledge into the lake without getting hurt, but she had yet to test that theory. Uub said he came here to think.
"...so then after that, Ethan and Sean were just laughing as James walked off, mud all over his face," Uub said. Bra laughed and sighed.
"You have a wonderful life Uub," he looked surprised.
"What are you talking about? Sure, I guess. It's fitting. But I don't even have a job and my mother's husband doesn't get paid much for what he does. I have to get money from fighting in tournaments. And those don't happen often. If you want money, all you have to do is snap your fingers," Bra looked shocked. "Sorry..." Uub mumbled. "It's just that I'm worried about the kids. As you probably figured out, money isn't one of our strong points in life."
"But love is, Uub. I mean seriously, look at me," she pointed to her dark attire, "I'm always alone when I don't have Pan around or helping my mother. My brother and Papa are almost always training. And when Trunks is with Goten or his many followers, Papa still trains. Sure, I guess I'm popular at school, but that's just because of my money, or my hair, or my eyes, or my connections, or my butt for all I know!" She took a breath, "Believe me, Uub. You have no idea how lucky you are. I can't even enjoy the little things in life anymore; it's not how I was brought up. Do you know how many company things I've had to go to with Capsule Corp? Too many. And everyone there is just so open and friendly. It's kind of a relief to be with a shy guy like you." She laughed, "Well, now that I've gotten THAT out of my system, you have anything to say?" He nodded.
"Look." She arched her eyebrow, "At what?"
"The sunset."
"What sunset? We haven't been out here that.....long....," Bra looked at the sky, the pink and blue hues shouting out to her. "Maybe I was wrong," she whispered.
"You said you don't enjoy the little things anymore. So right now, forget about that and enjoy. Tell me, when was the last time you watched a sunset?"
"When I was about eight. I used to watch them with my mother." She said. She watched as the sunset over the hills in the distance, watching the colors dance around the sky. She shivered.
"Cold?" Uub asked. She nodded.
"Maybe I should fly you home then. It's getting dark anyway," he said standing up.
"You? I do have my car, ya' know." He nodded.
"I know. But it's dark. And when in the woods, it's hard to see, even with lights."
Bra was about to tell him that she could most likely find her way home, but then stopped herself. 'What's wrong with letting him take you? No harm.' "Sure."
"Okay, would you prefer I carry you or should you get on my back?"
"Carry me," she said with a smirk. "But I warn you, I'm not exactly the lightest sixteen year old."
He moved his arms under her, lifting her off the ground. "I think I can handle it."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
She stepped down, her sneaker like boots making a small 'clomp' noise. She turned around to face him. "Thank you, Uub. That was probably faster than my car would have been anyway." He shrugged.
"Bye," she said, walking toward the front walk to her house.
"Bye."
"Oh. I almost forgot!" Bra ran back and gave Uub a small kiss on his cheek. "Call me sometime, okay?" He nodded and she ran off. "Later, Uub!" He waved back until she was in the door. Then he flew off, feeling better about himself.
Bra entered her house and took off her shoes. "I'm back," she called. She walked in the kitchen, her mother and father the only ones in there. Vegeta glared.
"Where have you been all day?" He demanded. Bra just smiled.
"With a friend."
