AFCTU Fans V Culina

AFC Telford Fans 10 Culina 1
Venue: Lilleshall Sports Centre
Date: 28/08/05
Kick Off: 8.00 pm

AFCTU fans continued their good run of form with their biggest win to date over Culina on the astroturf at Lilleshall Sports Centre. The scoreline itself flatters the fans team somewhat as possession was fairly even throughout but Telfords better attacking play and clinical finishing ensured a comfortable win for the team. Telford started well with Matty Dickinsons long throw ins causing the Culina defence a host of problems. Right Back Greg Paul came close early on after getting his head to a couple of the long throws. The goals soon came and Telford clocked up 6 by half time with no response from the Culina team. Both Mike Nadal and Gary Spragg scored goals off attempted crosses, whilst veteran fans team goal poacher Chris Wilson scored twice to continue his good run of form. Richard Manns and Matty Dickinson were the other scorers for the team.

HT: AFC Telford Fans 6 Culina 0

Despite Jonah's team talk stating that the scoreline was an unfair reflection of the game, the fans team started the second half poorly and conceded a goal within the first 5 minutes of the half after a defensive mix up. The fans team reacted well to this though scoring the goal of the game moments later after good interplay between Spragg and Manns resulted in a wonderful headed goal for hat trick hero Chris Wilson. Telford then cruised home to victory with 2 more goals from Manns to grab a hat trick for himself and another goal for Matty Dickinson. Its fair to say Telford were helped considerably by a very dodgy Culina goalkeeper who contributed towards at least 4 of the Telford goals, but overall it was another satisfying performance from the fans team. Rob Hughes, in nets, had a commanding performance even managing to flatten central defender Dave Pearson when coming to claim a cross. Greg Paul, who was replaced by the impressive Ian Dawes after 55 minutes, had a solid game rarely putting a foot wrong, whilst the other full back Dave Corbett put in another good performance getting forward at every opportunity. Centre backs Pearson and Catling put in another strong performance despite the odd nervous moment. Telfords midfield was again impressive, however at times there was a large gap left between the midfield and defensive. Lee McNally put in a decent 55 minutes despite his leg injury, whilst Groves and Windsor continued their impressive central midfield pairing. Nadal, Dickinson and Spragg all put in decent attacking performances whilst the central forward pairing of Manns and Wilson each grabbed a hat trick.
