| Andrew Thomas was selected as an astronaut in NASA's fourteenth class (1992). His first mission was in 1996 when he was the payload commander on STS-77. Next, he became the final American astronaut to serve on board the Russian Space Station Mir. Thomas was launched to Mir on STS-89 in January of 1998 and returned home on STS-91 in June of 1998. He made his third flight into space in 2001 serving as a mission specialist on STS-102. He has logged 163 days in space.
