| Pavel Popovich was selected as a cosmonaut in 1960. He made his first flight into space as commander of the Vostok 4 mission in 1962. For his final mission he was given command of Soyuz 14 in 1974. This was the only mission that flew to the Salyut 3 military space station. Popovich retired in 1982 having logged 18 days in space.
