| Leonid Popov was selected as a cosmonaut in 1970. His first mission came in 1980 when he commanded Soyuz 35. This was the fourth resident crew to the Salyut 6 space station. Next, he commanded Soyuz 40 in 1981. This was the ninth and final mission of the Soviet Intercosmos program. His final mission came in 1982 when he commanded Soyuz T-7.
