| Pinky Nelson was selected as an astronaut in NASA's eighth class (1978). He flew on three shuttle missions. His first flight came in 1984 when he served as a mission specialist on board STS-41-C. Next, he flew as a mission specialist on the STS-61-C flight in 1986. His final mission came in 1988 when he was a mission specialist on STS-26. After flying on STS-26, he became the only astronaut to fly on the mission before (STS-61-C) and after (STS-26) the Challenger accident. Nelson retired from NASA in 1989 having logged 17 days in space. My Collection: This is a astronaut water survival course cover which Nelson has autographed (as have 13 other astronauts). His signature can be seen as a close-up below the image of the cover. |
