George D. "Pinky" Nelson
Pinky Nelson was selected as an astronaut in NASA's eighth class (1978).  He flew on three shuttle missions.  His first flight came in 1984 when he served as a mission specialist on board STS-41-C.  Next, he flew as a mission specialist on the STS-61-C flight in 1986.  His final mission came in 1988 when he was a mission specialist on STS-26.  After flying on STS-26, he became the only astronaut to fly on the mission before (STS-61-C) and after (STS-26) the Challenger accident.  Nelson retired from NASA in 1989 having logged 17 days in space.

My Collection: This is a astronaut water survival course cover which Nelson has autographed (as have 13 other astronauts).  His signature can be seen as a close-up below the image of the cover.
