| William McCool was selected as an astronaut in NASA's sixteenth class (1996). His only space flight came on the ill-fated voyage of STS-107. Launch on January 16, 2003, STS-107 was a mission that was heavly based in scientific research and McCool served as the flight's pilot. It was scheduled to land at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on February 1, 2003. During reentry, the Space Shuttle Columbia broke up over Texas which resulted in the vehicle being destroyed and the crew lost. McCool died in the disaster along with the rest of the crew. During his only mission, he logged almost 16 days in space. My Collection: Above is an official NASA 8x10 litho of the STS-107 crew which has been autographed by each member. It has also been inscribed, I believe by William McCool. Below is an official NASA 8x10 litho of McCool which he has autographed and inscribed. |
