| Valeri Kubasov was selected as a cosmonaut in 1966. His first mission was in 1969 when he served as the flight engineer on Soyuz 6. Next, he was selected as the flight engineer for the historic flight of Soyuz 19 in 1975. This was the famous Apollo-Soyuz Test Project mission when the Soyuz 19 docked with an American Apollo spacecraft. For his final flight, Kubasov commanded Soyuz 36 in 1980, this was the 5th flight of the Soviet Intercosmos program.
