| Robert L. Gibson | ||||||||
| Robert Gibson was selected as an astronaut in NASA's eighth class (1978). During his career, he made five space flights. His first mission came as the pilot on board the STS-41-B shuttle flight in 1984. His second mission was the command of STS-61-C in 1986. Sadly less than two weeks after the landing of this mission, the Space Shuttle Challenger was lost during launch and the program was haulted. Gibson would not fly again until December of 1988 when he was given command of STS-27. In 1992 he commanded STS-47 for his fourth mission. His final mission would be STS-71, this would be his most historic as well. This mission, launched in 1995, was the first shuttle flight to dock with the Russian Space Station Mir; it was also the United States 100 manned space flight. Gibson retired from NASA in 1996 having logged 36 days in space. My Collection: This is an official NASA 8x10 litho of Gibson which he has signed and inscribed. |
