C. Michael Foale
Michael Foale was selected as an astronaut in NASA's twelfth class (1987) and has flown five missions.  He first flew as a mission specialist on STS-45 in 1992.  His second flight was on STS-56 on which he served as a mission specialist, this was in 1993.  Then he flew on the 1995 shuttle mission, desginated STS-63, as a mission specialist.  In May of 1997, Michael Folae was launched into space on his fourth shuttle flight on board STS-84.  He had been selected to participate in the Shuttle/Mir program which involved a long-duration stay on the Russian Space Station Mir.  He returned to earth as a member of the STS-86 shuttle crew five months later.  Foale's fifth mission was as a member of the STS-103 crew in 1999, once again he served as a mission specialist.  Following the STS-103 mission, Foale began training for a flight on board the International Space Station.  He was given command of the three man crew of ISS Expedition 7, scheduled to be launched in April of 2003 with the STS-115 mission.  Following the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia, the STS-115 mission was put on hold with the rest of the shuttle flights.  The ISS crews were reassigned into two man "Caretaker" crews which would be launched in Russian Soyuz capsules.  Foale was lauched in October of 2003 onboard Soyuz TMA-3 serving as the ISS Commander for the Expedition 8 "Caretaker" mission; he retured to Earth in April of 2004.  He has spent 373 days in space, this is the most by any American astronaut.

My Collection: This is a NASA stationary paper which Foale has autographed and inscribed.
