Keep Paddling

At this point, the raft had entered the second part of the rapid - another steep drop. The guide (at left) must get our focus back to the challenge at hand and he yelled to us, "Keep paddling!" He screamed a few commands to us, but I don't think we carried them out. (Please note, no one is paddling here - just stunned and in awe of the mighty river.) However, we made it through the last section without losing any more crew. By now we had traveled several yards down the rapid and had not seen Carol.

(Carol: I remember tumbling over and over under the water as though I had been transported into an old-fashioned washing machine, having no control or ability to swim out of this situation. Millions of bubbles from the white water appeared and disappeared with the shades of light and dark as I tumbled below the surface, not knowing if I would surface and where I would be in relation to our raft when I did! I must have been carried along by the current just ahead of our Raft #910, but under the churning water.)
