Vegas Foto Diary - The Final Days

Can it be there are still Luxor statues I haven't photographed?

A flying disc hovers over the Fashion Show Mall, where K. and I spent many a happy hour...

"The King is in the house! Make way for the King!"

The King (AKA Steve Connolly) poses at Fitzgerald's. (Thank yew, King. Thank yew verra mush.)

The original 1906 Vegas casino hotel.

Downtown has what it calls the Neon Museum: a collection of signs from old, often defunct hotels, casinos and businesses.

An exhibit dedicated to the cocktail hour.

The lamp from the original Aladdin, circa 1966.

Andy Anderson, the mascot for Anderson Dairies, circa 1956.

A tower of radiant obsolescence.

The city that never sleeps, in the city that never sleeps...

The El Cortez, the original 1946 Vegas resort, still hanging on in a derelict stretch of downtown.

On the Fremont Street stage, a crew shoots a documentary on Elvises. I call this one "the Little King."

Driving down Casino Center...

"Darkness and desert and my hand on the wheel..."

The light beaming from the top of the Luxor pyramid can be seen from miles around.

Now's the time to thank Linda and Ron Bushyager, who invited us to the brunch at Luxor's featuring this flower arrangement. Linda also let me use her laptop, wireless network and Memory Stick Duo slot to upload all these photos, among other favors. Thanks, guys.

Eek!

Steve Wynn's $2 billion mistake.

Defunct casino on Flamingo Road.

Another part of the Neon Museum: Sign from the Pioneer(?), restored to its former glory downtown.

A slightly closer look.

At last...the monorail, which eluded my camera for so long. Thanks to K., who insisted on going back to the Hilton gift shop an hour and a half before her flight was scheduled to leave.
